Dealing with Morons on Boot Leave.

Came home from Boot Camp and ITR. A guy I used to hang out with started ragging me about being a Marine.

Wanted to challenge me with a whole bunch of stuff to show me Marines aren't so special. I just ignored him.

Then he told me he wanted to fight me. I asked him why? He said he wanted to show he was as tough as a Marine. I told him I wasn't interested in fighting him. He kept pushing the issue.

Finally he said, "Why don't you want to fight. Marines are supposed to be so tough a fighter. Didn't they teach you how to fight in Boot Camp"?

I told him, "No they didn't teach me how to fight in Boot Camp. All they taught me was how to kill another human being, with my bare hands, a gun or a knife. I don't want to kill you".

He never brought the subject up again.

A very good reply. I admire your self control and maturity. Much success in the Marines.

When I started this Thread, I was hoping to start a dialogue with fellow Marines about similar situations. I was not looking for accolades.

The event took place a long time ago in another century. The term ITR should have been a clue as to how old the event was. Don't think ITR has been used in the Corps for several decades.

Sorry for any confusion.

Accolade withdrawn . . . as you were.

No harm airing a good solution to what's not an uncommon problem for up'n comers, yes?
'Might have made a difference here and there, y'know?
