Not much .17 HMR love...(pics)
On this forum anyway. I have a 10/22 and its fun but there's just something I love about the hot little .17 HMR I love.
Savage 93R17 (so nothing special lol)
Poker target shot at 80 yards. Wasn't playing poker just plinking. Two flyers above the 9 of diamonds were me sighting it in, which I thought I'd already had done on another target.
I have a buddy whose parents own a farm and can shoot 16" steel plates very easily at 250 yards.
For anyone that isn't a hunter but wants to reach out a good ways this caliber is excellent.

Got one a few years ago for B-day and hung a scope on it and bought a single box of rounds, and never have shot it
Mine is either a Marlin or Mossberg bolt action, can't even remember which.
Seeing this, will pull it out and go shooting

I like my Ruger model 96 lever-action in .22 mag, does that count?
Right or wrong, I wanted the heavier bullets for coyote. But you can shoot flatter

Well it's not a .17 HMR but its a cool round too. I do mostly target shooting but the .17 HMR works great on ground hogs which is the reason my buddies parents lets us shoot on their farm.
I don't live near coyotes territory. I just as soon use .223 on those dudes.

I have a couple .223 also, but the beauty of rimfire is it is legal in shotgun zones during deer season, whereas a centerfire isn't legal then (but is legal before and after the deer season).
I thought about and respect the .17HMR, as it is the cousin of the .22 mag

This is my favorite rifle in .17 HMR (yes, I know Remington thinks they don't work, but mine does).
Remington 597M .17 HMR

.17HMR are some of my colony varmint rifles of choice. CZ 452 & Savage 93R17 and 17 gr Hornady VMAX has ruined many a prairie dogs day.
Drive >4k miles R/T so it is a once a year trip for my shooting partners and I.
Best.

Almost wish I had one, I was at Cabela's yesterday and not a single round of .22 ammo to be found. 17HMR was piled up, not cheap but there were boxes and boxes....

I love long guns. Yours looks like fun.
My ability to shoot them has gone to almost zero with the population growth and lack of places in the rural areas to play.

... ... I guess the 30 cents a round here in Utah turned me off 17. I hate that there are not any other real large companies producing the round so there isn't any completion to drive down prices or create innovation. I had one...sold it and just kept shooting .22. Good groups though! You should be proud!

Had a 93R17 - (gave it to son-in-law) loved it! Until I bought the Savage 25 in .17 Hornet. Wow! Put an old Leupold 4.5x14x50 on it and it will punch 5 shots into a ragged hole. Most of my whistle pig targets are under 150 yards. Man, no worry about hold over or under. I wont reload for it so will have 1k emptys for trade ( .45acp or .45C) later this spring. I'll post notice in RELOAD section.
Shoot straight.

Awesome ground squirrel gun. Shot till I couldn't reload anymore this day.
Accurate enough that when this guy stuck half of his head up over a rock at 80 yards, it was over.

I have the Savage 93R17. Fun little gun to shoot. I can pop Tannerite at 50 yards with it. I seem to shoot the same with 17 or 20 grain bullets.
