Need a source for ammo

Specifically .223 Federal Tactical Bonded Soft Point. Anyone have any ideas? I just bought a PODA patrol rifle, and the department usually issues 2 boxes of 20, but of course, we're out right now, so I'm left to secure my own. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

What does PODA stand for (maybe I am dumb).

Do you have a grain preferance to the ammo?

Sorry, you're not dumb, I'm just apparently inconsiderate. PODA = Personally Owned, Department Approved.

I'm told the ammo has to be 55 grain, and I did see that website, but I was kinda hoping NOT to pay 2 bucks a round, seeing as at the moment I've got 3 mags, and I'm trying to score 2 more. 5 x 28 = 140 at right around the $2 per mark is nearly $300 in ammo just for the rifle. Kinda makes me want to puke a little...

Haha I don't blame you there.

In all seriousness though, I guess that's the best price I've found so far. I would just love to know what the heck is so friggin special about this load to justify that price. And why my department felt this was the way to go. Oh well, above my pay grade...

That is what that ammo costs. Always has.

Its tough to find but I can find it locally "relatively" easy for about $0.42-.47 per round.

Really? That seems pretty steep, although I've never dealt with this load specifically. It just seems spendy when there seem to be other options at a lower price point. Plus, my stingy department is the last people who would willingly shell out that kind of money without freaking out!

Federal Tactical Bonded? I highly, highly doubt it. The price you are quoting is for 55gr FMJ.

Do they require that load, or will any bonded, 55gr round work? There's little doubt that the Federal Tactical Bonded is the cat's ass of bonded .223 rounds, but the Gold Dot rounds provide relatively well (not quite as good as the Federal Tactical, but much better than non-bonded) at a price more in the range of $0.60/round. I bought an entire case (of 64gr) a few years back.

Heck the Federal Fusion round is even pretty close to the Gold Dot rounds... I'd use it if I couldn't get Gold Dots or something better... There's some at my local walmart now...

Don't quote me but I don't it goes through the same QC as the "duty" rounds do...

From what I've been able to find out, the Fusion MSR is designed for the AR platform, with a diff. primer, sealed primer etc... the regular Fusion is designed more for bolt guns.
