There's no reason to carry in a church!

Oh, really?

I carry every Sunday to Church and I'm not alone.....a few others I'm aware of. We're all sinners working to be better people but I'm sure there are some out there looking to target anyone anywhere for their benefit. If they show up with deadly force, we won't be turning the other cheek.

There are only two places guaranteed to have cash. A bank during the week, and churches on Sunday... Jus sayin.

A lot of murders happen in church.

We attract and minister to a lot of broken people which is as it should be.

Keep your powder dry.

I carry and the Pastor knows and approves. Of course I'm going shooting with him tomorrow so I guess he would.

I used to occasionally take the offering deposit to the bank night drop box after church. I always carried a firearm and quite often my dad would go with me (and he carried as well).

Two local preachers are good customers at the local gun store. Heck yeah they carry in church.

Years ago a Catholic Priest looked me up to buy a defense gun.

I asked him,
This gun is for defense, meaning, to save yourself or someone else you may have to shoot/kill someone.
Given your line of work, do you think you could do that?

He said,
Yes. God does not mean for us to allow ourselves to be murdered.

I sold him the gun.

I also carry at church.

We're a small church, less then 200, but there are still folks who would love to do harm to those in a church no matter what the size. And we have had threats against the church and against the Pastor.

I'm not Rambo, but I don't intend to just sit there if the church is attacked.

The more literal and factual translations of the 10 commandments do not include "thou shalt not kill." They include, "thou shalt not murder."

Yep, why would church be any different than any other place? I'm sure many a good christian would leave IT to the Lord, but I'll go with the unbiblical addage of "The Lord helps those that help themselves", or the biblical "Be prepared for the day of reckoning".

This thread reminded me that I need to politely approach the pastor at my church about CCW. He needs to make a decision about it. Or maybe I should just leave it alone. Better to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

Around here we say "Remission is easier than permission". Same thing you wrote, but a little more poetic.

I hope that he realizes that bad guys DON'T ask for permission --- only good guys do.

Texas allows it unless the church specifically posts the state legal 30.06 sign which prohibits carry. If its not posted, which it is not at my church, i carry my Glock 17 and an extra mag on me every Sunday. Not sure if the minister is gun friendly or not and at this point, i am not going to ask him.

I carry every Sunday and Wednesday nights and for any other special function. Our state permits it as long as permission is given by those in charge of the church.

I'm an Elder in the Church.

I carry every Sunday without a second thought.

If you think about it, we have seen a plethora of attacks at churches and other places of worship for a wide range of religions and beliefs. Nobody is immune to it.

Churches are viewed as a soft target, and are targeted a lot both here in the US and overseas. In the Sudan, Muslums targeted Christian churches until it became common practice to arm the Deacons and Elders and prepare them for this threat.

Every church I have attended as an adult was pro-self defense. Anuniform practice has been the overt promotion of firearms activities, Church sponsored shooting events, training events, group gun show visits, etc.

I am a member of several church security/risk management organizations which provides many resources and training for churches.

I would no more ask if I could carry at a church than I would ask at any mother location.

James Holmes - killed 12 and injured 70 all by himself in a movie theater which is tactically similar to a church.

What if he had three accomplices with him and they each had their own corner of the theater?

The next big attack on American soil doesn't necessarily have to be high tech or involve dozens of highly trained terrorists.

It just needs to be well planned and executed by a few extremists. Furthermore, it wouldn't have to drag on for a long time like Beslan, Mumbai, or Kenya. If they are intent on committing as much carnage as possible it could be over in twenty minutes or less, start to finish.

Regards,
Happyguy
