New member from Norway

Hi, everyone!

I'm a new member on this forum after having been a long time lurker. My name is Paul and I live in Oslo, Norway. I have been shooting the Glock 17 since 1987, when the Norwegian armed forces started using it. The transition from P38 Walther to G17 took some time, but I eventually grew fond of the G17 and I really enjoy shooting it. I'm in the process of replacing my own pistol (an old CZ 75) and strongly consider a Glock as a replacement. This forum is very, very informative to me and I'm looking forward to contributing here.

Welcome Paul. I too have a fondness for the 17. I own numerous Glocks in 9x19, 40 S&W, and 45 ACP, but choose the 17 for carry and home defense.

Hi, everyone!

I would like to thank you all for your kind words and for welcoming me to this forum. It was very kind of you! To reply to a couple of posters:

Eirik: Det er nordmenn over alt! Hyggelig å treffe deg her!

ColdSteelNail: Getting a pistol/revolver in Norway is a bit difficult. To cut a long story short: you need to be a member of a handgun club. The clubs have in general become a bit stricter in welcoming new members, and you would often need a recommendation from an other member to be granted membership. Some clubs can lend you a weapon on the range during organized training. If you want your own weapon you need to get a permit from the police. The police will do a thorough background check of you, and will give you a buying permit for a weapon if everything is ok. You then take the permit to a dealer and buy a weapon. Btw: When you apply you have to state the caliber you are applying for. The police might have some additional questions if you apply for a Mag 44 as your first weapon... The police say they do random checks at the clubs to ensure that the members are active. It is possible to have more than one weapon, but then you have to go through the whole process again. You also have to provide documentation that you are an active shooter and "need" the weapon. It's thus very difficult to own two similar weapons/two weapons of the same caliber. A .22, a 9mm and a .357 would probably be ok, but it's usually much more difficult to convince the police that you need two 9mm. How the police apply the rules vary a bit from district to district, though. There are signals from some politicians that they will propose much stricter gun laws after the 22nd of July-shootings two years ago. We have just had the election for parliament and it will be interesting to see what the new government will do, as we probably change from a socialist/green government to a conservative/liberal one. Negotiations are ongoing as I type. It is not allowed to carry a gun on your body, unless it's for transport to/from the range.

Hej Hej: It's always great to have visitors! Norway is a very diverse country with lots of nature and plenty to do. It's very expensive to live her, though, compared to the USA. I've actually been to the Pulpit Rock and it's a very impressive place. Remember to also visit Kjeragbolten if you come to Norway - it's a very special place and NOT for the fainthearted.

Well Hell Papa, I was there couple years ago. Went by the island where that shooter shot up the place. I really like Norway although 25.00 for a bottle of beer is a bit high.
Welcome to the board & thanks for coming.
