Possible counter attack on background check idea

The claim from gun control advocates is they want universal background checks to help keep guns out of the wrong hands, and they are not interested in registering guns.

Proof of the pudding is in the eating, so a reasonable thing to do is to take their disinterest in registration at face value and eliminate gun specific information from the 4473 and destroy bound books rather than delivering them to BATFE when an FFL goes out of business.

Think that would fly?

I'll throw that into my toolbox for my next gun debate with a liberal and see what happens.

Are ffl's required to turn over their books to the ATF after a certain amount of time or do they get destroyed?

Here's another one, along the same lines.

If confirming a person is not dangerous before allowing them to be in a position to harm others easily is a good thing, why limit it to gun purchasers? What if the background check were opened up to anyone who felt like checking out another person, for whatever reason, subject to a small and reasonable fee.

Hiring a babysitter? Background check.
Dating a new person? Background check.
Selling a car? Background check.

After all, no one who has nothing to hide would object, right?

Only if they go out of business. Otherwise they have to keep them indefinitely and make them available for inspection by the ATF during business hours.

I think that background check is racist therefore background check should be abolished. American gunowners did fine before NICS.

What other constitutional right must you get a government permission slip before you exercise it? I think journalists should have to pass a background check before they publish every single article.

And a lie detector test about each article before it is published. Certainly don't want the children exposed to propaganda masquerading as news do we?
