yeah, i wouldnt handicap myself purely for nostalgia... the new cars just have leaps and bounds more science and engineering involved.

I'll take the styling, big block, and mechanicalness of the originals over modern "muscle" cars any day of the week.

That would be fun M&P15T. You're right that its really cool to just be able to plug in my Diablo Sport Intune and tweak/change engine & tranny parameters.

It's so easy, it's comical.

Of course, I have a PROPER manual transmission. You know, like a real, manly sports/GT car should.

You're right Mr30s, it should been a survey.

Now, my little Dart. As I said, it had the 340 six pack, 4 spd, and it had attitude. Written on the differential in White paint marker was 3.91-1. On each end of the axle was bolted two tubular beams bolted to the spring pad and had big rubber snubbers on the front end of these beams. It had an old set of Marsh street cheaters. It had a big old cluster of header pipes flowing through 3 inch collectors. It had electric line lock and a little 8 inch aluminum fan.

I did not say it was stock, I said I paid 175 dollars for it.

I agree with you on two counts. I agree with those times with street tires and that 3.23 gear. I also agree with you about braggarts. I had a 60 Corvette would turn mid to high 14's and I only encountered one guy that could beat me consistently.

Brother... a plastic computer on wheels is not a muscle car no matter if it has 600hp or not. 1969-70 was the last year of the muscle cars. One or two have surfaced since then like the BuickGNX and 1993 Cobra R and Pretty much all the Corvettes but everything else is simply not a muscle car.

Its kinda like telling someone who has listened to music all their life on albums and analog that digital downloads are the same thing. Its just not. Listening to and keeping record albums is a tactile experience .. a ipod is not in the same universe.

a 500 hp Honda is simply not anything like owning a 1970 cuda

Why would I want to own a modern muscle car when I've drive them in the past when I've worked at car dealerships? A close personal friend owns a car lot that gets them in regularly and I can drive them if I want.

And given the fact that I'm limited to three choices, I'm not impressed - especially the "retro-styling".

Wow.

You do realize that in your list, the plastic car is a corvette? So you say that "a plastic computer on wheels" is not a muscle car and then say "Pretty much all the Corvettes" are muscle cars when the corvette is a plastic car.

You then define a Cobra R as a muscle car and leave out the Terminator Mustangs and the new GT500s. I am assuming that you are referring to the 2000 Cobra R (as opposed the the '95). I am not sure that 13" / 4 piston brembo brakes, large brake cooling ducts, front splitter, and large fuel cell were made for what a "muscle car" was made to do. Last I looked this is more of a road race setup...

a pushrod chevy v8 in even the most current corvette is hardly a "computer" when compared to most current cars of today [Honda lexus bmw ] When I say plastic computer I am talking about Asian cars of the current variety. Cars you cant work on with a wrench. Its a phrase and not intended to be taken literally as many cars have plastic body parts.

When I said 1993 SVT Croba R, that is what ment to say.

When talking about my list of muscle cars I typically limit it to cars you could see at the red light.

It really is hard to argue that the "old", "original" muscle cars are better, since the "new", "modern" muscle cars go fast, TURN AND STOP!

If you look, a corvette has as "computer" as any car out there. A pushrod engine has no less electronics that an double over head cam engine. The difference is mechanical.

Originals for nostalgia and cool factor.

New ones for reliability, performance, and longevity.

What I'm really getting a kick out of are those who talk about muscle cars yet keep mentioning pony cars.

General Lee - Charger - Muscle Car
Hemi'Cuda - Pony Car

As long as we're getting pedantic
