Can I modify a Glock slide?

Has anyone here ever tried to file down a GLOCK 29 or 20 slide to be able to use a GLOCK 30 or 21 .45 barrel in it?

Just curious.

I think I'm going to order a kkm threaded G30 barrel and some diamond files from amazon and give it a whirl. The worst case scenerio is that I have to go to GLOCK in Smyrna and have them replace the slide. Been there and done that.

Would it be easier to file down on the barrel instead? It's wider at the rear of the barrel hood, I think at least. I tried putting a 21 barrel in a 20 before and to me that's what seemed to be keeping it from happening. Just thought it might be easier to do that instead of changing the slide in case you want to shoot 10mm again out of it.

The entire breech area is too narrow. It is machined for the 10mm cartridge, but I have been thinking about doing this since reading the threads about the slide weight difference between the 29 and 30. And, nobody makes an aftermarket G30 slide that I know of. I am considering the purchase of a G30 slide if GLOCK in Smyrna will sell me one. I will not pay $360 to glockmiester and then be put on a backorder wait list. Thanks for the input, anyway.

I guess it wouldn't matter if the hole was perfect as long as it cycled freely. I would think a machine shop with a lathe would be able to do it. That isn't something i would try at home.

This is a crappy photo but it shows my G21 barrel resting in my G29 slide. Nevermind the camera date, its an old camera.

Amazon sent me a substitute diamond file package, junk made in china, but they worked so no sweat.

I know it can't be seen, but there is a 460 Rowland round in the chamber.

KKM G30 threaded barrel on the way. Pretty soon I will be firing Underwood 185gr XTP 45 Super out of my G29... With a YHM .45 Comp installed.

I realize that I get a little confused sometimes, so instead of going on about this G29 that is going to act like a G30, posted in the G21 forum, I am going to stop adding to this thread.

If I can figure out how to do it, I will move this thread to the 10 ring or the Big Dawgs Club.
