We had a dinner party and two of our guests wanted us to wait on them hand and foot. I hope they don't come back.

Dear Consumerist,

You'll never believe the horrors that we endured at our last dinner party...

Similar thing happened to us when dining at one of the area's finer establishments. I asked the waitress for my usual extra mustard packets and she disappears for 15 minutes. Come to find out her boyfriend came in and started an argument with her. She slaps him so hard that the manager has to give her hand first aid.

The manager finally comes over with the extra mustard, but I told him that I had already eaten most of my hot dogs. He said I should know better to come in with that attitude on a busy Saturday night. I said I wasn't about to have my constitutional rights violated, but he walks away and started muttering about the price of condiments or some **** like that. Told him I'm filing a case with the local chamber of commerce, but he acted like he didn't even give a damn.

Last night, similar deal-she brought the dessert (cheesecake) to the table, started talking with people generally and after 15 minutes started to serve the dessert.

I thought both times it was rude to ask guests if they wanted a food, produce it near them but not serve them My wife said no-the hostess has two duties, to serve the dinner and to socialize with the guests.

What are the thoughts of folks here? What do you do when hosting??
Well bless your heart!

I would have gave her no longer than 30 seconds to start serving before I drop kicked the pie and left

A buddy of mine's father was killed in the sky's over Vietnam, but that having to get your own dessert sucks too.

I hate when PWT tries to have a nice dinner party. We all know the house has wheels. The nerve. I'm quite sure the ice cream was not homemade... and this thread is not going as intended.
