Beautiful. I grew up in El Paso. Love the mountains there. I got hooked on hunting when i took an aoudad out of the Davis mountains. Would love to find an arrowhead one day.

Extremely interesting seeing the pictures and reading about the "wildlife" there.

In Minnesota it is so cold that the rattlesnakes do not go any further North than Red Wing, Minnesota. They nest in the Limestone Bluffs but are never found in the Twin Cities, only 52 miles further north. It's strange that with such a sharp divide in location you cannot find them at all in them at all even a few miles from there. Red Wing has so many, they paid a bounty on them.

Simply stunning! What a gift, being able to experience all this first hand and outside your backdoor at that.

Hey thank you to all..... !!!

Yes I am greatly blessed ! I sure am.

If it will ever come a good rain here for a few day (it would be a mitracle #1) but it also turns up more stuff. The ground is hard a brick at present. about a 15 years or so drought...

Glad folks are enjoying the pics and stories.... !

There was a great day during huntng season a couple of years ago. I wish there had been more to it I could have taken nice pictures of, but here is the sunrise that morning from one side of the "hill"

Hunting, Fishing & Camping

Here is the sunset that night from the other side.

Hunting, Fishing & Camping

Somehow, everything I did in between just seemed to pale in comparison.

(OK that is as close to "fillosoffical" as I get)

Yep, sometimes what we do inbetween, doesn't look like much comparied to the vast brillance of a beautiful sunsrie, or sunset.

Very nice!

Reminds of an area I hunted years ago near Robert Lee, Texas.
Very picturesque but the dry climate made life a challenge for the wildlife.
Thanks for the pix- keep 'em coming.

That fire looks horrible! Did it roll across your ranch?
If that wiped out the oaks, it would have to be very bad for the wildlife. I'm guessing that is from a couple of years ago when wildfires were all over the state?

No.. It came within 1/4 mile of our place at one section in the far back, but not 'on us.' We have another dry summer comming up. Most have been for many years though.

No oaks here... Just Mesquite and cactus as far as you can see, and a few huge walnut trees that have been around forever, and on another part some cedar-elm, and tons of just plain cedar.

This stuff gets so dry in the summer heat it can just burst into flames at the drop of a hat. It don't take much.

Well adios...

Thanks for the great photos ! I love the old time West stuff, specially if it's Indian related. I Elk hunt on a ranch in Chama, NM that has lots of history. An old railroad ran through it, and arrowheads are found all the time (not by me though ). There are several caves on the ranch that have petroglyphs on the walls.
Bassman-Dan,I used to hunt in Robert Lee, Texas too on a ranch owned by Mr. Waylon Drennan and the photos do remind me of that area.
Thanks again CanyonMan- I will check back from time to time for more pictures !!

You boys are most welcome...

One of my brothers, lives on the side of Flag Mountain in Questa, N.M. Elk every where there !

Here are a few more ranch pics.... For fun !

"One" of the still standing old hired hands quarters way way back down the canyon. The old boy died, his horse turned loose, and his saddle still sits on the porch. Should have went into the corral tack/stall area, but they choose to leave it on the porch !

Your welcome...

Better hurry. This country may fill up one of these days. I hope not, but ya never can tell. Right now, there are still places you can go 40/60/80 miles between ranch houses.

Way way things are going, I just hope it stays like this !
Good thing is, unless ya ranch, there really ain't anything else to do for a living much out here. Ranching ain't for much either with the drought.
