That is because shop owners know little or nothing about the 357 sig. However, it is not going away and maybe over the years it will become popular. As long as I have my 4.5", G32 and good ammo, I do not care.

A lot of the people working at gun shops both small and large (especially large) don't know much about much of anything.

According to the shop closest to me Federal Hydro Shok and Hornady Critical Defense is the best out there. I would not carry either.

not tring to dis 357 sig, i like it. I dont have any short barreled 357, 6" glock and a 5.5" sig sports with compensator are my 357 sigs

I was wondering if any of you guys have put the short barrels on the chrono. would a short barrel 357 and 9 +p+ have a hard time burning all their powder in a short barrel? I am sure they would with slower burning powders but what about OTC rounds?

I can tell ya for a fact that in a 6" barrel the 357 sig puts a turn of speed on from hand loads.

I know a shorter barrel equals slower speed because of powder burn time and unburned powder leaving the end of the barrel,but what about a compensated barrel? Will it let enough pressure out to slow the bullet speed? I own a 31c and a 27 with a 357 barrel and have wondered what the difference is. ike

Basically the pressure drops and no longer causes the bullet to accelerate as soon as bullet hits the compensator. Your G31C will give lower velocities than a regular G31.

I shoot my G33 quite a bit (3.5" barrel) and it burns the powder nicely. I use slower powders in my reloads because they work very well in the .357sig. With a 125gr Federal HST (rated at 1360fps) you are looking around 1290-1310 out of a G33. Not that bad. A G31 with the same round is closer to 1400.

As to this question, my guess would be to measure from the back of the barrel hood to the start of the first compensator hole on the G31C and that should give you the effective barrel length. It actually is not that easy, but it should give you a good comparison.

Ike, my sig 229 has a 5" barrel before the compensator. Thus it out runs most SSP. One nice pistol to shoot.

My 6" barrel is a lone wolf. I was getting real close to 1600 fps with 125gr. From those loads I had some re-reload that would not let the the slide close. I was using mixed cases that were all reloaded the same number of times. By comparing cases discovered on some case the shoulder had not been set back far enough by the sizing die. I did not figure out what the solution was till I read it in the 357 Sig group. I thought it was an over load. Solution was to take some material off the shell holder so the die would not bump the holder as soon.

Still have not decided if round was overload. Just got the shell holder milled

Although he will lose velocity it should not be quite the same as a complete loss of barrel length. As you said, it's not that easy. Pressure is still maintained in the ported area...how much is dependent upon number and size of the ports, etc.

I have a G26 Gen 4 9mm, a Sig MK25 9mm, Sig M11-A1 9mm, Sig 226 9mm Elite Stainless, and a G33 Gen 4 357sig. I have a G27 barrel that allows my G33 to shoot .40 and 357sig X-Change Kits for the MK25 and M11-A1 along with .40 barrels for both the MK25 and M11-A1 x-change kits. So I have 9mm, .40, and 357sig pretty well covered and I have over 4000+ Speer Gold Dot ammo for HD/SD, enough to last me about 4 years.

Want to know what I EDC? G33 G4 or M11-A1 with 357sig x-change kit.
What to know why? Google "Speer-Gold-Dot-Ammunition-Comparison"
9mm+P 124 Gr GDHP = 1235 fps velocity, 420 ft lbs energy
40S&W 155 Gr GDHP = 1162 fps velocity, 465 ft lbs energy
357 Sig 125 Gr GDHP = 1379 fps velocity, 528 ft lbs energy

With the 357sig it seems to me like I shoot more accurately and my follow up shots are as quick or quicker and there is no denying that its going to hit harder and faster.

What's the big deal you ask? Nothing if you ask me. Shoot what ever you choose.
What advantage does the .357 SIG really offer you ask. It hits harder and gets there faster.
