It doesn't mean they have given up. I'd guess they're still going to lean heavily on state legislators to accomplish what they could not federally.

Good news, but nothing that compels me to take my eyes of them for a second.

I am not from CO, so what CO does with their gun laws does not concern me as I have no say in it. It's for their residents to worry about. I'm also not from NY and have no say in NY politics. No, the sky is not falling.
