New to Glock 9mm any probs with Gold Dot 115gr ?

Just bought a new gen 4 19. Not even fired it yet, cos i'm on the 3 day wait.

Given the price of ammo these days, rather than buy to try, I'll ask on here instead.

As we all know 9mm ammo is like gold dust at the moment.

Local store is selling Gold Dot JHP 115gr. $20 for a 20rnd box. Thinking of buying a few boxes for CCW.

A question to you Glock 19 9mm veterans out there. Is this a good load?

Glocks and Gold Dots are made for each other. $20 for 20 rounds is the price I paid before the ammo dried up in my part of the woods.

A question to you Glock 19 9mm veterans out there. Is this a good load?

The first order of business is to run at least 200 rounds of FMJ range ammo through your G-19 to satisfy yourself as to the gun's reliability.

After that --- assuming you have no reliability issues --- shoot a box of the Gold Dot to satisfy yourself as to that ammo's reliability. I know all ammo is scarce but if there's more Gold Dot available and you've tested the gun/ammo combination then you'll feel a lot more confident should you need to defend yourself.

I think it's safe for me to say that Gold Dot is the default standard by which all other JHP self-defense ammos are measured. It apparently performs in all varieties, whether standard, +P, or +P+ pressure configurations.

You'd do better to get the Gold Dot 9mm in 124 grain. And if you can find it, the 53617 Gold Dot is the one to have (124gr +P).

I use the Speer 230 grain Gold Dot in my Glock 21...Best round I've found yet.

If I can get so lucky to find 200rnds of FMJ ! The only thing online is TulAmmo not sure i want to break my new G19's virginity on that stuff. The gold dot, which i now have 60rnds of, will be my CCW load. I'll probably put 15 through it once ive broken her in a little, and from there, i guess unless i get into a lot of gun fights with BG's they'll be for life !!

The G19 will serve you well in a gunfight. Just shoot straight!

I don't know how much difference the extra 9 Gr. makes, but I prefer the 124 gr., but hard to argue 17" penetration.

I have noticed that 9gr difference as well, and I wonder why they both exist.

Check sgammo.com. They sometimes have 115 and 124gr Gold Dots, in 50 round boxes which will save you money if you really do run 200 rounds through and then keep some for carry rotation.

Boy, you got that right - the cartridges are cheaper by the 50, not 20.

Many might disagree but after you break it in with fmj (glocks really don't need much if any break in, they eat most anything) I would run a mag of gold dots to confirm point of aim and call it good. Imo the "you must run 2-3 hundred rds" of your defense ammo to ensure reliability is not necessary for all pistols.

Who can afford that with the scarcity and prices these days and its just not required. Top notch fighting guns such as Glock and M&P are very reliable. Also, gold dots are a very reliable feeding ammo. If I was limited to one pistol it would be the Glock 19 and you can't go wrong with gold dots.

That's right. Speer Gold Dots are great cartridges.
