My question is whether or not you can use 380 and 38 super bullets in 9mm cases. I see no reason why I couldn't because they are all .356 in diameter. The only difference is te grain for example a 380 bullet at 100gr and a 38 super at 130 gr. please confirm this is safe and have any of you done it?
most reloading data this days show that the 38 super uses .355 or .356 bullets so you should be able to use any bullet as long as you can find data for the bullet you want to use.
I would recommend that you do not go over on the bullet diameter if you are going heavier. And do not do this without good information. Remember that this little round is a high pressure round, you stand to gain nothing but could do some real damage. In the other direction, I loaded some 380 bullets into a 357 herrett once and was shooting over 3000 fps. Could not hit crap at 50 yards with a scope.
Diameter and profile is what I look at vs what the bullet is supposed to used for. .380, 9mm and .357sig if the jacketed bullets are .355"-.356" and a profile that will work I load them up. You could use even larger diameter say .357" jacketed bullets if the load is worked up properly but I don't go that large with jacketed in the forementioned calibers.
Every once in a while I will load up some 90gr XTP bullets (I use them for .380) in .357sig and launch them well over 1500fps.
