Shooting my first IDPA classifier today!!
I have shot a couple matches in the past but have not shot a classifier. I think I want to devote some time and energy to IDPA this year and see if I can be any good at it.
Shooting SSP with a stock gen 3 G17.

Like that Prince song says "The 1st time ain't the greatest" just take it as a learning experience for the next time

that's outstanding. Let us know how you do. I'm jealous. I used to shoot PPC and IPSIC WAAAAAYYYYY back in the day. It was a lot of fun.
I'd like to try IDPA, but there aren't any matches within a three hour drive from me.
Good luck, have fun and be safe.

The long shots are the equalizer. You can do great on the short shots, then blow it on the distance. Ask me how I know.
Everyone I shot with the last classifier I did had the same issues. All of us on that squad were MM or SS.

Well... I misunderstood the instructions on one of the strings on the first stage. It added 10 sec to my time and I ended up missing Sharpshooter by 6 sec. Definitely a learning experience.

Sounds like you still did really well for your first go at it. I always wanted to get into some competition shooting. I'll have to do some research.

My buddy misses Expert by 1/2 a second. He was not a happy camper.

Sometimes that's not a bad thing if you shoot a sanctioned match.

I've shot a couple of IDPA matches at my local club. Next month will be a qualifier. Frankly, I don't care what category I end up in....I'm long past that. I shoot for the fun of it. If I place high...fine. If not...I had a good time anyway. Just the way I look at things.

I don't like the fact that the classifier is the same all the time. People set it up and practice a lot so they can place higher...nothing practical about that.
Peace

Sure, you can practice the classifier and do very well, but can you translate that to a match against other SS, MM, EX and so forth?

That's just it... there are some who do well on the classifier but not a regular match. There are guys who are classified higher than me but I do better than them in a match.
Peace
