Captain Morgan "Tattoo" rum is nasty...
Maybe it's because I usually drink Sailor Jerry or The Krakken, both of which are dark, flavorful rums...
But that Tattoo stuff has an awful after taste and I was not impressed at all...

I'm not too keen on any type of rum unless it's mixed in some fruity concoction that maybe has a little umbrella in the glass. (after I bar the road to the house, draw the curtains and turn out the lights to make sure nobody sees me.. )
But I sure as heck won't drink anything called "Sailor Jerry"..........not that there's anything wrong with that of course.

I like the straight sipping rums. Not a fan of rums that taste like suntan oil smells. I'm obviously in a minority- Capt Morgan sure sells a lot of rum!

Rum needs to be mixed with pineapple and other fruit juices. As you can tell, I'm not a big fan of rum.

I only drink that class of rum with Coke or some other type of "mixer" but you are right...Tatoo is too sweet or something. I like regular CM, Sailor Jerry, Mount Gay, or Bacardi Spice for mixing. For just sipping over ice I like 8 or 12 year old Flor de Cana.

I find Cruzan light or dark to be a very nice rum to drink.

Back in college i used to drink spiced rums, then i tried good rum and havent looked back.
Now I have on my shelf: Ron de Barrelito (PR), Flor de Caña 7 años(nicaragua), allegedly Havana Club & Havana Club 7 años (allegedly Cuba), Mt Gay extra old (temp out) & Mt Gay sugar cane brandy (barbados), and Appleton Estate (jamaica)
I sip these straight with a little ice.
My purpose has changed with drinking about 10 years ago. I used to like to drink to get drunk, now I just enjoy the flavors slowly usually with a nice cigar.

My standard drink is Meyer's dark with grapefruit juice. I know, sounds weird but it's good. Kraken, Gosling, Mt.Gay, Sailor J, they're all good for sipping. Gonna have to find some of that Flor de Cana and give it a try.

Captain Morgan and Sailor Jerry are both spiced rum. Neither are real rum. Both are for novice drinkers who don't know the difference between real rum and a highly-marketed and -advertised faux rum. It's kind of like drinking orange vodka.

Or...people drink it because they like the taste. Imagine that. You're too high-brow for this crew.
