Mom charged, let 3-year-old pump gas

I'm sitting here tying to remember how old I was when my mother started having me do it.

Police: Pa. mom charged, let 3-year-old pump gas

Associated Press

Updated yesterday at 2:07 PM

LANCASTER, Pa. (AP) Police say a Pennsylvania woman has been charged because she allowed her 3-year-old son to handle a gasoline pump, and the child sprayed fuel onto himself.

Manheim (MAN'-hym) Township Police said Tuesday they filed a charge of endangering the welfare of a child against 46-year-old Theresa Moran Camera, of Lancaster.

Police say they were called to a supermarket on Jan. 19 and determined the boy removed the nozzle from the vehicle without releasing the handle.

The vehicle had left by the time police arrived, but witnesses gave investigators a license number.

Court officials say Camera doesn't have a lawyer on file, and a home listing for her couldn't be located.

I grew up with full service stations. Check oil/air in tires.... if you want. Start of (widespread) self service. I was likly 5 when I was expecterd to fuel car for my mom. . Driving tractor when I could barely push in clutch.
If her kid is not able . She shouldn't let him/her. I have seen adults mess up filling gas tank. . True most leave teh dang nozzle in tank and drive off. (guess most 3 yr olds won't do that )
I remember one place had a "Only lic drivers allowed to fuel cars" I was maybe 10 (but it was raining) Mom informed me it was my job.

People called the police and hung around to give witness statements because4 a kid pumped gas? The world is done - glad we don't live longer than we do. Maybe some retard can blame the police for what their fellow citizens did.

And it's plain crazy to believe a 3 year old can be taught to work. To them, it's just still play. They have to be at least 5 or 6 y.o before they can be trained to do simple tasks like pumping gas.

You might have a point there. I'm sure as a taxpayer I'm paying for several dozen right now. I've probably seen a few 35 yr old grannies around here. tom.

From the title I was thinking the parent pulled the nozzle, put it into the tank, and let the kid simply squeeze the handle while staying right there, but it seems she just let the kid go at it.

Call me insensitive, however, I think 3 might be too young to give free reign over a water hose.
