Serious question and no I'm not making a comparison, but Hitler was properly, duly elected in Germany.
Would your sentiments apply to him as well? "Ignore the ovens, respect the office."
Right?

Good for him.
It was a shame he had to accept that medal from that president in the first place. I'm sure he was gritting his teeth all the way. And Obama didn't exactly look like he was enjoying it when he presented the medal in the first place.

Nothing disrespectful about turning down a request. He was given the choice, he chose. And wisely.

Would you explain this statement?
We know, and he knew, it's a photo op for him to be seated with the first lady, and he chose not to be a part of the propaganda. How is that his loss?

Hitler wasn't elected, he seized power.

Let's use FW or FH and leave the great state of Florida out of it. Guilt by association and all.

Did he turn down the offer in a disrespectful way? In case you forget, one of those dudes has a MOH on his neck/chest. The only thing he is required to do now in life is to die peacefully, unfettered and unmolested by ceremony, politics /etc.

He did not lose anything. If none of those folks Obama invited had shown up, or called in sick at the very last minute, it would have been a major embarrassment for Obama.

We really don't know the reason why he opted out except that he wanted to spend time with his comrades. I know that he somewhat reluctantly received the Medal Of Honor indicating that it was really a team effort that day of the battle. I just think he decided not to make any more of his deeds that day by attending the speech and opted to spend time with his friends instead. It may not have been a political or moral statement at all. He is quite a man.

The article only says he chose to stay home with his wife, friends and family.
So where is there some courageous decision and standing by his principles, etc? Now he may not be a fan of the President, I don't know... but the article makes it sound like he simply had other plans that he preferred over being a guest at the address.
or am I missing something?
That said.. I don't think I could go either... and if asked about it, I'd make very clear why...

Actually he did win the election. His party got the most votes. He then eliminated his opponents ability to oust him from office.
People like to forget he got the most votes. That omission allows them to think democracy can only bring good things.
Failure to remember than caused Gaza to go to Hamas.

Few things:
1) A Medal of Honor winner is basically untouchable for life. The chain of command can make him do things within the normal day to day military stuff but can only suggest beyond that.
2) A photo op or a political type rally such as this cannot be made mandatory. It can be highly suggested and recommended but not mandated. What are they going to do, give him a bad eval? I don't think so.
3) Says he got out after receiving the award. The first handful of words in the article are, "Former Army Staff Sergeant Clint Romesha..." He has no chain of command.

He already had received the highest honor possible so how is it a loss to sit through a boring speech with someone you don't know?

Thanks for the clarification. I didn't read the article. I didn't know he is no longer in the military.
