Thinking about selling my glock 30 and 1500 rounds of 45 to go straight 9mm. Plus I alredy have a keltec sub 2000 and 9mm AR. All glock 9mm so same mags and stock pile cheaper ammo than 45 plus a nato round. Whats everyones thoughts.

I think it is an outstanding idea! If your G30 is a Gen 2.5 or 3 with night sights, you should sell it to me



I've limited myself to 2 handgun calibers, the 9 and the 45, it is a pain stocking ammo for both, but I bought it cheap and stocked it deep over the years.

Don't do it. There's something special about .45 ACP, no matter the firearm chambered for it. You have the firearm and ammo stockpile, both of which are hard to find right now. I'm not sure what the situation is in your area, but 9mm Glocks are far and few between in my area. 9mm factory ammo is hard to find. If I find it, it's at a high price.

If you are in no hurry to transition into 9mm and you really dislike .45 ACP, now is the time to sell. Sell for what your local market will bear, pocket the profits and wait out the great firearms panic buy of 2013. Sell high, buy low.

I like options. Limiting myself to one caliber doesn't leave me with very many.

Personally, I'd stick with the Glock 30. You're already pretty well established in .45.

I've consolidated my calibers to 9mm and .30-06.

I will never get rid of my .45 or my Luger, but I shoot them when I feel like shooting them.

JaPes is absolutely correct when he mentions that as of now it's difficult to find anything, and you should take that into consideration if indeed (I am not sure from your post, am inclined to believe the opposite) you do not have any 9mm pistol and/or supplies.

That said, I did consolidate years ago to 22lr and 9mm and have not regretted it ever. Life is varied and yet simple, I have two calibers with which I can do everything I want.


I really liked 45's but I enjoy shooting a lot way more, and there are so many fantastic guns in 9 that I never feel constricted by my choice. For me 9 rules, 22lr is sheer fun with added advantages from an economic and practical perspective. If I change my mind, I can just head to GB and find a fix, but so far I never felt the need.


To be honest though since I started competing seriously I have bought less and less guns, focusing more on practice and refinement.

I specifically made it a point NOT to consolidate calibers, solely based on the scenario of mass ammo shortages (like now), that way, I'd be able to shoot whatever flavor I could find at the time.

Before the accident last week, I owned 1x .22, 1x .380, 5x 9mm, 1x .357sig, 1x .357mag, 1x .38sp, 2x .45acp, 1x 5.56/.223, 1x .40, and 1x 12ga... Including a G23 with all 3 barrels. This way, when I go into Walmart for the 7th time in a month, to find they actually have ammo, but just one caliber, it's usable. Etc etc.

Plus variety is nice.

I agree. I think 3-4 totally calibers is more than enough.

Do what you feel like. Now is an excellent time to sell but you're well stocked on .45- I can see both sides to this argument lol.

I have 2x .380; 1x 9mm; 1x 5.56mm; 1x7.62x39; 1x .30-30(grandpas); 1x12 gauge.

That's more calibers than I want so I only keep good stock of both pistols(1000 rounds each), and am building stocks of 5.56mm and 12 gauge.

There's no reason not to keep the .45 if you like it. If it's your only .45 and doesn't mean anything to you, sell it. Keeping calibers to a minimum is something I've done for years.

when I consolidated calibers it got me down to 15 total calibers, not including magnum variations (.38/.357 count as one for example).......

I guess in all fairness that is centerfire, rimfire and shotgun

Due to wanting to limit the amount of money and space tied up in reloading dies and ammo components, I've limited my calibers to 9mm, .45 acp, .357 Mag, .223, and 12 gauge. I have both rifles and pistols in. 357 Mag and. 223. Having that versatility helps one live with fewer calibers, IMHO.

I didnt consolidate anything. In fact I add calibers all the time. Whatever ammo is available I have something that will shoot it. Worried about the future availability? Start reloading. I've started casting my own. All I need is powder and primers. Stack em deep.

I used to have .38 spec, 9mm, .357 sig, .38 super, 9x23, .40s&w, .45 acp. I am down to .38 spec, 9mm, .223rem and 12 gauge. With this ammo shortage, I wish I still had some of my exotic calibers.

By doing this I was able to get more ammo for the weapons I currently have....however I have been on a pistol kick lately…to be more pacific… I have been purchasing the convertible types where a single hand gun can shoot different calibers from the same pistol with a cylinder change

• .22 & .22 mag
• .357 & 38sp & 9mm
• 45LC & 45 ACP

Of course their single action Ruger’s and not as popular as semi auto’s but I like accuracy shooting more than to shoot as fast as you can…
Not that you can’t do the same with semi auto pistols

I wouldn't want to consolidate calibers. I like all kinds of different stuff, and if you only own one caliber, if you run into a problem finding ammo in that caliber, then you can't shoot. If you have a wide variety of guns, chances are better that you'll be able to find something to feed at least one of them.

If you've got quite a bit of ammo for any particular gun then I wouldn't get rid of it. I've got mine pretty well condensed.

9mm (conversion barrel for .40 and a good bit of ammo and reloading supplies for the 9mm)
.40 S&W (lots of ammo and reloading supplies)
.45 ACP/.45 Super - .45 Colt - 454 Casull (lots of .45 ammo and reloading stuff)

.22 LR rifle and pistol
12ga Remington 870 (+ different barrels for different applications)
AK47

I consolidated my handguns to 9MM the middle of last year and haven't regretted it. All depends on your reasoning. Works for me, but may not for the next guy. To each his own.

With that said, remember that right now 9MM and .45 ACP are among the most difficult calibers in which to find ammunition. Hopefully won't last long. You could probably sell the pistol and ammunition for a premium, but right now you're going to pay a premium when you replace it.

I have consolidated calibers myself and dedicated all my pistol reloading solely to 40 S&W. I love the round and can find most pistols I like chambered for it. No regrets here except for one. The closest thing I own to a 1911 is the Springfield EMP 40. I absolutely love the pistol but maybe one day I'll pick up a true 1911 and just buy the ammo for it as needed. Definitely not anytime soon though.

I'm not going to restrict myself from neat guns simply because it's a different caliber. Since mine is a hobby, and caliber uniformity isn't a necessity, I'm open to other "common" calibers.

I have .38/.357, 9mm, 10mm, .45acp, .22LR, .223/5.56, 7.62x39, 7.62x51 and 12ga. Keeps my hobby from becoming boring.
