Your First "New" Gun??

What was your first brand-new, store-bought gun, when did you buy ir and how much did you pay?

Mine was a Remington 760 in 30-06, bought in 1974 at Value House in Bangor, Maine. I'd picked a lot of potatoes to pay for that bugger....

Think it was $119. Dad had to buy it (strawman?) as I was 16. No deer for me that year, but got one in '77.

Still feel like an idiot for selling it...

What was yours and do you still have it??

Tucson 1977. I had turned 21 and walked into a sporting goods store where I had previously checked out their firearms. Picked out a 6" blue Dan Wesson, paid for (was about $157 with tax as memory serves) then walked out with it. The good ole days.

About 20 yrs ago I added the 4" hvy barrel and the grips.

Taurus PT99 (no decocker)..... $400 I couldn't swing the other $150 for a Beretta. The year was 1990 back when they weren't the crap they are today. Still have it in the safe.

The first "new" gun I ever bought for myself, was a Star Starfire M40. I paid $410-420 OTD. Traded it to a life long buddy for a bar he built for my gameroom. He still has it and I still shoot it.

Spring 1972 , I was thirteen I had worked all summer and fall mowing lawns, doing landscapping and up on roofs cleaning gutters plus helping Dad build a house. I saved up what money I didn't spend on ammo shooting Dad's .22 to buy my own. K-mart was new in the area but the gun counter guy had promised me they were going to have the Marlin 60 on sale in the spring. They did and I got it, Dad signed for it.

That fall, since I hadn't misused it the family greed to let my maternal Grandfather give me a 5 digit (nobody knew it was collectable back then) Ruger Standard Auto. 4 years later I saved up again and drug Dad to the LGS where he signed for a brand new Colt Series 70 Gvt Model

My father gave me my first gun. A Ithica model 72 saddle gun made in W. Germany. They were only made from 1972 to 1978. I have read the Henry 22lr today was designed after it.

I guess my father got me into guns. For several years he would buy me a gun for my B-day or Christmas.

He got me the Ithica I think it was $79.
He got me a Ruger single six $99
He got me a Rossi .38 $79
He got me a Ruger Security Six .357 6' SS $199
He got me a Remington Wingmaster 870 I do not remember the price. Also a Marlin 336 30-30.

I remember buying ammo from a LGS and I was not old enough to drive. He bought all these for me between the age of 14 and 18. What would the media and the libs say about that today. All those guns and I never commited a crime or went on a shooting spree. That was in the 1970's and no one made a big deal about it.

Ruger Single Six Convertable, was bought for me, in my mame,
by my Uncle, when I was 7 weeks old. So, on paper, that would be my 1st.

The first gun I actually bought & paid for was a 2nd Gen Glock 17.
Was bought in Montana in 1994, paid $360 and change. Some
fargin icehole stole it & some other valuables in '96

Ruger 10-22....about $59 + tax......actually managed to shoot it until the mag spring completely wore out. Have not been able to repeat that with any rifle or pistol since!

Marlin model 60 .22 lr. Bought from Target (yea they used to sell guns) probably 1978, coat $49 plus tax.

I was about 14 mowed lawns to get the money, dad had to buy it for me.

Still have it.

All my friends had model 60's. I remember wanting one because it was a semi. I had a Ithica model 72 that was a leaver action. Now days the Ithica is worth much more than a Marlin would be. At the time I thought a semi was so cool.

First firearm in general was a Mossberg 500 when i turned 18, it was about $400. First handgun was a Glock 19 with night sights when i turned 21 & was about $600. First rifle was when i was about 19 & was a brand new Marlin camp 9. Still kicking myslelf to this day for selling it.

1976, Browning Hi Power. I sent it right off to Kings Gun Works for a trigger job and to have it ramped and polished.
I forgot what I paid for it.

Although I purchased a few used guns prior to this, I believe the first new gun was a Smith and Wesson model 10 snubnose revolver around 1972. Can't remember the exact price, but I think it was around $110.

My first was a Model 29 Smith & Wesson .44 Magnum with the 8 3/8 inch barrel in blue. Had to wait a year to get it because S&W was backlogged in 1973 because of the Dirty Harry movies. Honestly I cannot remember the price but I think it was around $300.00+ Still wish I had it!
