MN: State congressional hearings next week on gun legislation
http://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2013/0...-gun-hearings/
Heads up for those of us in the state, it's hearings - but considering how 'closed door' the MN government works these days - there needs to be vigilance.

I wonder what the chances are of something passing. I will continue to email my reps opposing any further gun control legislation.

My local rep responded to me today. It was as follows:
Thank you for your e-mail. I always appreciate hearing from constituents.
I do not support any legislation that limits our second amendment rights. Please know I will not be voting in favor of any additional gun control legislation.
Thank you for the honor and privilege of being your state representative.
This is the response I was expecting. However, I hope more than half of the rest are this 2A friendly.

That's the kind of responses I like to see. Short! To the point! Favorable!

Me too! Glad I voted for him. I promptly thanked him for his support of the 2A.

I have sent my rep. 2 different emails the past month and got a near instant response back from his I-phone saying he is on our side. I have got nothing back from my senator but he is A rated NRA.
I am very worried though as Democrats are in charge of the whole shebang right now. I know many of them pretended to be pro-gun to get elected but that is it-- how many were just pretending????
I didn't click on the link but they are trying to pass the same crap here as New York-- 7rd limit and no grandfathering- we would be instant felons

It seems to me to be a fairly foregone conclusion in MN. This gun control fight in MN was already LOST during the recent election cycle. The anti's have control of every legislative chamber and the Gov. desk in MN now.

I am fearful of the same thing. However, several of the DFLers from outstate are pro 2A. The NRA claims there are enough votes to block legislation. One of the top DFLers that is pro 2A claims that he has enough votes to block legislation. It will be close but if we fight like crazy we might be able to stop this yet.

Add the seven rural Democrats to the 61 Republicans in the House and you have a 68 to 66 advantage.
Add the fact that only a few real zealots from heavily liberal areas are really into gun control and they're mostly just posturing for their liberal base.
Things are not nearly as dark as they look.
Just keep talking to your legislators.

Good post. We will not give this up easily. I am sending another round of emails to the pro 2A DFLers tonight.

I was at the capitol today on other issues. The place was very crowded with pro gun people. The senators and Reps were busy with lots of lobbyists. A couple senators I spoke to were confidant that an AWB or magazine limit would not go anywhere. They do listen to voters, so email, call or write letters. Squeeky wheel gets the grease. All these guys want to be reelected.

Today's hearing looked to go well for the Pro Gun side, not that I believe they can change minds already made up.
Tomorrow night at 6 is the last hearing and will be broadcast live online. They'll be talking about magazines over 7 or 10 rounds and that posession will become a felony. You either turn it in, destroy it or you're a felon period. A total over-reach.
I've heard Dayton on this stuff and while I don't think it'll make it past the floor of either the house or senate I don't think he'd sign off. Maybe I'm dreaming... but if they do pass this BS I'll be making my exit plans.
