New model SIG P227
Didn't see a thread on this yet so thought I would add the snip I read from the policemagazine.com email this morning.
SIG Sauer's aggressive expansion of its handgun lineup will include a new model called the P227 that could be introduced as early as SHOT Show 2013, according to a Missouri firearm dealer.
The P227 will be a .45 ACP pistol with a double-stack magazine that's based on the P226, according to SIG Sauer Guns and Accessories, a website operated by Osage County Guns in Belle, Missouri.
The P226, which is available in 9mm, .40 S&W, and .357 SIG, was SIG's military replacement for the 1911. The pistol is carried by the Texas Rangers, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Michigan State Police, and numerous federal agents. U.S. Navy SEALs also carry the P226.
The P227 would compete with Spingfield's XDM, Smith & Wesson's M&P, and FNH USA's FNP45 pistols.
Can't find much info at the time of reading this but would be interesting to look at and see exactly what they do with it. I have 10rd mags for my 220s which are pretty easy to use if needed so not sure if 11-12 rounds would make me want a wide grip. The 220's grip is part of what make it amazing in my opinion.

If the new sig is exactly the same size as the Sig 226 in grip yea it might be. Still looking at 11-12rds if lucky though.

Yea this is pretty much what would need to happen if they are actually going to introduce this. And now looking at that unless they have some type of magazine magic the grip would need to be either larger or longer to make this happen. Not really interested anyway, a DAK 220 is one of the best 45s I have ever owned.

Not a fan of rails either when in the holster 99% of the time. I like Sig though, should be a nice shooter.

So, they're resurrecting an earlier concept for a mil gun that never happened.
Well, why not?
Other companies are selling .45's well enough, and the metal-framed TDA .45 pistol market has been ignored to some extent.
The 10+1 capacity - with an extended 14-rd mag - ought to compete nicely with the M&P 45, which is becoming increasingly popular.
The trick will be to see how large and disparate of a group of shooters can adapt to the grip dimensions, I suppose.
Since S&W has dropped their 4566TSW from production for pretty much all but established S&W agency customers, it's not like the 227 will have much in the way of competition from other metal-framed service pistols (and even then, the 4566TSW's 8-rd mag capacity loses 2 rounds to the new 227's mags).
The 227 is something they really ought to have delivered to the market more than 10 years ago ...

Would REALLY like to see more manufacturers have No Rail as an option. Don't want it - don't need it - won't use it.
(And a round trigger guard while you are at it )

You notice they never show the ejection side of new SIGs anymore. Long extractor lottery, ugh!
