Sonic Cleaner by Hornady?
Has any of you good folk tried the Lock-N-Load Sonic Cleaner? I seem to have a little room on the Bench and am thinking of purchusing one. I like the idea of cleaning the inside of the case.
Good or Bad what do you people think?

It's a little pricey, compared to the average tumbler... not just the machine, but also the solution. I'm curious as to how many cycles the solution can be used. I imagine you could also use it for gun cleaning...?
All aside from the costs, it strikes me as something i might not buy myself, but WOULD put on my Christmas list.

If you have extra room on your bench forget about the cleaner and set a blond up there. Very distracting but well worth the occasional squib or double charge.
I've blown up three guns so far but I don't care.

Well Jack
I may be able to swing more reloading tools and even a couple of new guns a year, but another blond around the bench would cost me at least another house. And I lost a paid off ranch style house back in 94 took me 10 years to pay off this one don't think I want to go thru that again. That is why I called her the little house keeper

I wonder if the Hornady solution requires a neutralizer? Regardless, it may be more effective than a tumbler but it creates an extra step called "drying". I think I would get more use out of it for cleaning gun parts. I think it would make short work of cleaning my AR bolt's.

Doesn't it look familiar? Just paint it black.

When I'm a Gazillionaire, I'm gonna get me a Thumler Model B. I think it can take Liquid media as well as Walnut and Corncob.

If you use rice in your tumbler it will clean the insides of the case.

And when you're done you can make a delicious stir-fry.

My experience is that with Lemi-Shine added to the water both the insides and primer pockets are cleaned of all carbon residue.

It makes the cases shiny clean but as soon as you pull the trigger it's all dirty again. Unless you are preparing cases you are going to load and put up on the shelf for years I think the regular tumbler does good enough for the weekend shooter. I buy the fine walnut media from the pet store in the bird section and there is no dust at all from it. When I was a kid we didn't have any kind of case cleaners but then there were no carbide dies either. I run cases in the tumbler now so I don't get dirt and grit in the carbide dies. In the old days we had to lube them and wipe them off anyway, didn't matter much.

Sonic
I work in the jewelry industry and use ultrasonic cleaners a lot. The cheap one just don't work. We have 3 sizes and not one of them costs less that 1200.00 bucks. I've seen claims all the time about units for the "home use" and they all do the same. Heat a solution and make noice. Save your money.

The ultrasonic I have is rated as 160 watts which is about 3 times what most others are rated. My GF is extremely pleased at how well it cleans her rings, earrings and bracelets. I also us it to clean gun parts. It is certainly not a professional product but I am not a professional cleaner.

Don't let jack fool you. He has one that he turns on when his SS check shows up. It stops his ex's from coming up the driveway.

The watt rating refers to the heating power. Ultrasonic power is produced by transducers. If a piece of aluminum foil is placed into the unit, the foil should be distorted. This is a standard test.

The larger model is only $99. for model #043320 Hornady Lock N Load Sonic Cleaner II at Midway now. Get this larger model, for sure. Easier to read angled readout, more capacity, better cleaning.
Usually Midway rarely has lowest prices but this time they do. Watch for coupon code or else Midway will nail you with high shipping charges.
Only downside I have found to sonic cleaners (regardless of brand) is that your brass comes out wet and must be dried. For some reason, putting gun powder into soaking wet cases doesn't work for me.
