Hey, if I tell an Indian joke, can I complain that I offended myself?

I know redneck is not a race, but it's a term used as a racial slur against certain white people.

Eric, I'm not offended by the term. Though maybe there are other members, or even paying sponsors that do not appreciate the term being thrown around. That is just my opinion, I'll let you boys get back at it.

Two rednecks decide to receive government subsidies due to the drought.

As they were to sign their release forms, the man collecting the forms ask why the first redneck didn't completely fill out the questionnaire pamphlet. He replies, "I never really learnt how to read or spelt that good." The man states, "If you can't read or write, you will not be able to apply for this assistance." Upon hearing this, the second redneck blurts out, "That's okay, he's with me, I can read and write fine and I'll help him fill these forms out."

The guy handing out the forms says fine, and then advises that they both have to sign a consent form. The first redneck signs the form, and then ask the second redneck if he signed on the right line. The second redneck said, "Yes, that's the right line, but you forgot to put a circle around your -X-." The first redneck, while whispering states, "Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I don't want to give these government men my last name."

I can't believe I am having this conversation.

It isn't a racial term unless it applies to a race. 'Redneck' ain't a race, it's a state of mind. It is not a slur. I don't fit neatly into any particular category, but I fit into redneck about as we'll as any. Redneck isn't an insult. It is a person who is self-sufficient. If something breaks, he fixes it. If he needs a part or a tool or something that isn't available, he makes it. If a problem comes up, he by-God deals with it. What is wrong with that? Eric

Actually, the oldest reference I have found to the term "redneck" goes back to the early 20th century as a term for Catholics, in reference to the clerical collar. Sometime in the 60's it became a term for conservatives who's hair was cut so short they would get sunburn on their necks. 'Like a "farmer's tan"

Can I complain that you didn't refer to it as a Native American joke?

I am a Native American. My kin have been here since Jamestown was established. The first Powell here in my wood pile lived with the Chikahominee Indians for most of his life. FWIW, the people who were here before us pale faces didn't spring up out of the ground here. They came from somewhere else too. To me, the term is meaningless and a bit ridiculous. people get too damned hung up on labels. Eric

As long as you know the difference between a slurpee Indian and a casino Indian, I'm cool with it.

If there is a problem or the perception of a problem, the best choice is to let one of the moderat.... ohh wait. Never mind.

There is no pure anything. I have Sioux Indian out there in the wood pile. Not enough to claim a benefit. One of my best friends is half Apache and I think he is whiter than I am.

He and his father were good friends of mine, until his father passed. His father used to call me white boy, but you'd never tell he was Apache to look at him. He was more a redneck than I'll ever be.

Redneck is a state of mind.

Most "Rednecks" I know are proud to be called Redneck. Also, I know some people who wish that could be called redneck. It's not a name...It's a title!

We recently spent $2500 on a young Black Angus bull. We put him out with the herd but he just ate grass and wouldn't even look at a cow. I was beginning to suspect he was gay, if that's possible with a bull.

Anyhow, I had the Vet come have a look at him. He said the bull was very healthy, but possible a little young, so he gave me some pills to feed him once per day. Holy crap! The bull started to service the cows within two days. All of my cows! He even broke through the fence and bred all my neighbor's cows!

He's been breeding just about everything in sight. He's like a
machine!" I don't know what in hell was in the pills the Vet gave him, but they kind of taste like peppermint.

Rednecks, a social slur, were people (dirt poor farmers usually) who could not afford a slave or slaves in the antibellem south. They had to do all their own work in the fields which meant a lot of stoop labor in the hot sun which lead them to suffer from badly sunburned necks. Slaves usually cost the current price of a mid to upper priced car today, remember, and nearly 90% or more of the southern population didn't own any slaves for this and other reasons.

I think this country is far too hung up on who's a redneck, who's black, who's gay, who's a woman, ect. I personally would like to go back to the days when America was a "melting pot". That concept as all but died in our hyper partisan, P.C., world.

By the way, I haven't really heard any good jokes lately so I enjoyed reading what's been posted. Thanks.

IMNSHO Redneck is a state of mind and it is color blind. I understand its historical origins; however, it has become something complete different in the modern context.

I don't understand all the hoopla. When I tell a joke about the Alabama girl dating her brother, everyone laughs. But when I tell about the black guy with a bucket of chicken, 15 kids and a one watermelon, I get call racist.

Despite the inbreeding "Alabama" isn't a race.

That's the technical argument, but, in principle you are right.

Now tell me the one about the black girl from Alabama and her brother and we'll see how it goes over.

I grew up in south GA. Except for the well educated, intelligent, and affluent part I could easily be a redneck. I think redneck jokes are funny.
