Russian Makarov IMEZ KBI .380 8rnd, bought for $140 brand new back in early 90's. Bought it on a whim because at the time I only had a revolver, ended up being my carry gun for a couple of years. Utterly reliable, accurate and easy to shoot.

S&W 5906: 100% reliable with factory and Mec-Gar mags, accurate and fun to shoot.

I have yet to have any of my Glocks fail me.
I have shot many many many handguns of all different makes and models and I could name several under the $600 mark that are excellent performers, but in my personal experience i have more time behind Glocks than any others so they are #1 for me.

If we're talking about just the gun (not the optics etc involved with it) then I'd say my Rem 700 SPS Tac has been my most trouble free gun under $600. It has been super easy to find an accurate load for and shoots like a dream. I haven't done a single thing to true or accuratize the action, it's just a shooter. Love it.

Under $600 and the most trouble free? Currently owned that would be: S&W 18, 28, 66, 625; RIA 1911-A1. I will not waste everyone's time listing other handguns owned that have been trouble-free and under $600 in cost.

I'm assuming that we're just talking handguns here, so, just off the top of my head...

Glocks
M&P's
XD/XDm's
Ruger revolvers (both SA and DA)
RIA 1911's

Without a doubt my most reliable autoloader has been my Gen4 Glock 27. Picked it up for $425 through the GSSF program. I have about 2,000 rounds through it with many types of ammo without one failure of any kind. I have used the standard 9rd mags with and without various extensions and 15rd mags. Not a single problem. A friend has had the same results with his Gen4 27.

Second place would go to my Sig P220 Elite Stainless which is significantly more than $600. Not a single problem with the standard 8rd mags but I have had problems with the 10rd mags.

My Rugers/Kimbers/S&W M&Ps are not bad, but I wouldn't trust my life with them over the Glock 27 or Sig P220.

Three semi-autos.

1. Colt Gold Cup NM - $375.00. ZERO malfunctions.
2. Beretta 92FS - $300.00. ZERO malfunctions.
3. Glock G19 Gen3 - $275.00. ZERO malfunctions.

ETA: I gotta be honest, here. I've never paid over $600.00 for a handgun (without tax!), yet.
The most expensive handgun that I have bought, was a S&W mdl 5906, right after they came out. ($595.00 +tax.)
Sold it for more than I paid for it.

My Arcus 94 has never had a hiccup. Best $239 I've spent on a gun.

Perhaps I should have specified guns that did not need any tinkering with them to make them trouble-free.

I have 4 Glocks. None of them cost anywhere near 600 bux. I have 22K rounds through them combined and none have had any problems what so ever. And they are the easiest to clean and maintain of all my Colts, Rugers, Keltecs, Heritage, and S&Ws.
