We can't have LE "cherrypicking" what laws they will or will not enforce lest anarchy soon ensue. This is a very slippery slope and being LE does not = Constitutional lawyer, let alone some pseudo grand arbiter of justice. That's why we have a Court system in place.

That said, if one can't undo a great wrong at the ballot box then maybe it's time to reach for the cartridge box and change the Gov't.

I hope and pray it never comes to that. Not that I have any pity for the thugs in office.

It's called discretion and cops have it, prosecutors have it, and judges have it, unless taken away by mandatory sentencing laws.

Also, an unlawful or immoral order is no order at all. That is basic to every person who swore an oath to uphold the Constitution, federal or state.

Ours has told me at least twice that he will not enforce unconstitutional laws or executive orders. And with him it is not about reelection anytime soon, because he just got sworn in at the first of the first of the year.

And they are first and foremost politicians.

While my boss is a politician, he was just re-elected before being put on this list. He received less than favorable attention from the media for his stance. He was even bolder when answering their questions stating he will not violate civil rights be enforcing unconstitutional laws and will NOT have his people enforcing unconstitutional laws.

I've known and worked for my boss for well over 20 years. He carries a Wilson CQB and is one that "would do, to ride the River with".

My guess is that these Sheriff's are on the same page as my boss. Either way, I'll gladly take their second amendment support.

My county Sheriff spoke at a 2a rally Saturday. Talked about how he supports the second amendment and his deputies had more important things to do than round up legally owned guns from non criminal type folks.

I have heard grumbling that he refuses to sign off on class 3 stuff but I don't know, never asked him to sign off on one. Either way, he has been. Decent Sheriff since he took office as far as I can tell.

I don't think it's a good idea for LE"s to pick and choose which laws to enforce. If they don't do their sworn duty then they shouldn't take the oath.

We have and continue to instruct, lead and mentor youth and adults alike when it comes to responsible gun ownership.
I feel that the national conversation has been sidetracked because the debate should not center around removing guns from law-abiding citizens. We all know that if you outlaw guns then only outlaws will have guns. I am not interested in making exceptions to ANY constitutional right. I am concerned with those suffering with mental health issues that populate our jails and go without meaningful and appropriate aid that provides solutions to the root of the problem. This issue has long been overlooked and I believe would address the source of the problem and not the law abiding, God fearing people that simply choose to embrace their rights as American Citizens.
We know, believe and stand fast on the fact that this great Country was established as a Constitutional Republic. This was because our founding fathers feared a democracy as much as a monarchy and understood that the only entity that could take away their freedom was their own government. I know that the sovereignty resides with the people and not the government. I am blessed, consider it a great honor, and I am humbled by my position as Sheriff.
As your elected Sheriff and a member of the executive branch of government, I do not determine what laws are constitutional. However, know that I will utilize any and all legal means available to stop the federal government from encroaching on any of our constitutional rights as Americans. Our right to keep and bear arms is absolute!

On the other hand, their oath proclaims they will protect and defend the constitution. If they believe an executive order is beyond the scope of the constitution as it has been interpreted, aren't they actually keeping their oath?

It's an ethical gray area, isn't it.

Taking discretion away from an officer would clog up the courts with trivial violations.
Some people only need a verbal, some people need the ride.

There are many archaic laws still on the books that make no sense. Surely, you would agree that cops dont need to enforce these type of laws.

It's mostly Multnomah County. Portland followed by Eugene (because of the UofO) and Gresham (huge minority population). Granted, these are the largest population centers, thus we vote Blue every year. Portland is as bad (if not worse) than Seattle. You definitely won't see Multnomah County on the list


The rest of Oregon, however, is fairly conservative.
