I'm only 49, but with my medical issues I hope I'm
still alive in 20 years.

I'll post on here every now and again though. Good thread idea.

Thanks man, It is what it is, I'm not going to whine
and get depressed.

I still get around well, go shooting and normal every day activities.

I'm lucky I'm strong minded and make the most of things.

The gun hobby definitly helps, you need something enjoyable to do.

Very good mindset. I am not sure how I would handle that.

We found out we lost a beloved member today, and the membership is stunned with sadness.

Our beloved Mayor, Okie has passed away, never to be forgotten.

The General Non Glocking forum has been renamed to The Okie Corral.

"Lest We Forget".

As P99er mentioned, GT has lost it's most prolific and beloved poster, okie. Last night after the news broke, Eric renamed the GNG Lounge to The Okie Corral. I had to chuckle because I've been to Tombstone, AZ and the OK Corral. I could just picture our okie strutting around there with a big six-gun on his hip.

He's the only GT'er to have over 100,000 posts. Most of them are gone now, as this forum gets purged all too often. One long-gone thread is the one started to commorate his 100,000th post. I saved a screeenshot that I'll share here. You'll see that he was a Charter Lifetime Member, but has a strangely high member #. In reality, there were only a little over 300 CLM's sold. I really don't know how he got the # 2129, but he did. I do know that the membership was bought by several of us in the Outpost Lounge when his Plat expired and he was going through some financial hard times.

GT has lost several, especially in the past year. Just the ones that I know about...

Jeff - 23Skidoo, Sept 11, 2012
Chad - cjlandry, Nov 6, 2012
Ron - El_Ron1, May 1, 2013
Jack - Goiajack, June 1, 2013
Gloria - Silent_Runner, June 6, 2013
Mark - okie, July 8, 2013

I knew 2 of them personally, they were both really special to me. 3 more, I'd exchanged PM's and emails with on several occasions, and consider all to be friends. Only one that I didn't know well, but liked him and enjoyed when he did talk with me. A great loss to us all.

And now the screenshot...

This has been a rough year for GT. Thank you for posting this summary. This has been a particularly hard loss.

In the past couple of years, I lost my Father, Mother and Sisters. I grieved as a son and brother would and moved on unchanged.

Just recently a man passed whom I had never met, nor had I ever spoken to other than passing comments on this forum, and too few of those. The outpouring of love and obvious sadness demonstrated to me that there was something very, very special about this man. These postings and feelings made me wonder who here would miss me if my time came to pass, and with no wonder, I figured "not many".

This made me begin to look at just what made this man so special. Was it his vast knowledge or wisdom? Was it he sharp wit? Was it his ability to debate? It was none of these. It was because he was such a rare and special person in today's world. He was someone who was a genuinely kind and compassionate soul. Someone who had only good things to say, and was generous with that goodness. In short, he was Okie, and that was enough.

This loss and the evidence of the hole he left in hundreds of hearts has made me rethink the way I will treat others in the future. I will make every attempt to be kind and supportive in my posts, leaving the debate and snarky comments to someone else.

Okie, you have given me something very rare. A goal for which to strive. That goal is to "make every person with which I interact feel better in some small way".

Thank you my friend for the example you set for all of us by simply being what you were.

Guess i will jump in.....My name is Dave and I will be 36 end of this month don't think i will make it to the 20 year mark due to very poor family genetics and bad personal habits I live in south florida which is a crazy place but has many good points as well. I like guns, fast sportbikes, fast cars, and getting a little crazy sometimes Hopefully in 20 years we still have our current freedoms but i guess we shall see. oh yeah obama is president right now and he is not well liked by many so it will be interesting to see how history views him.

Based on my current avg, 20 years from now I will have 32,799 posts, less than 1/3 what Okie accomplished.
Hoping he is still being quoted.
