Either way, our Republicans' ideas of rebuffing gun control laws is to use both hands to spread our ass cheeks wide and apply a lubricant, to minimize the tearing and bruising from the (any) impending ass reaming we are to receive.

And (this is hilarious) 10rd mags will be grandfathered in, but you can only load them with 7rds. I'm sure all the criminals will obey this law.
Where did they come up with this stuff?

Why blame the democrats? It was a Republican controlled Senate the voted overwhelmingly for the bill.
|
"republican controlled" is open to debate. Most members of the New York senate are democrats (32 of 63) but 6 of those consider themselves "independant democrats" who have voted with the minority republicans to elect a republican majority leader.
Worst of all, they are all apparently New Yorkers, which makes their republicans about 10 times as liberal as our democrats.

I believe I read that the new law will allow 1 year to sell your magazines out of state. Otherwise, they become contraband.

Indyfreak - reading the proposed NY law it appears that citizens will not be able to possess magazines holding more than 10 rounds. Magazines holding more will become contraband and would have to be turned into the police or disposed of.
Further, after one registers his rifle, he will then receive a form letter from the local PD warning him that possession of mags holding more than 10 rounds is a no-no.
I have no reason to doubt that the form letter warning will also go to every registered handgun owner in NY state.
They WILL put gunowners on notice.

Old prebans...you have a year to dispose of them or sell them out of state.
7rds in a 10rd mag... That's like ...baby, I promise to only use the tip.

I few days ago, I was called and idiot, or was it moron? I was accused of bias and not knowing anything in which I talk about.
So here it is.
I estimated that 90-95% of police would go along with a confiscation (which is what is going to now happen in NY) and I was called a moron. Now, I know, I know, the people who called my this might say "well this is different, this is NY". Ok. I will give them that. Lets say that the police are ten times less likely to do what right in NY. That means that 0.5% to 1% should stand up for what is right and turn in their badges.
Anyone of the people who called me a moron want to bet a nice C-note on this. My bet, there will be less than 0.5% of LEO in the state of NY turning in their badges and stating the reason is the new gun law within 60 days of its implimentation or refusing to enforce the new laws?
Well, let me be sporting. NYC has an authorized PD count of 34,450 so let us use that number and assume no other police in NY state. 0.5% of that is 172 officers. So the sporting guy I am, lets put the number at 150 officers in the entire state. Which person that called me an idiot is going to step up the plate and take my $100?

Right from the text of the bill...
Quote:
Section 38 of the bill amends Penal Law 265.00(23) to ban all large capacity magazines that have the capacity to hold more than ten rounds of ammunition including those that were grandfathered in under the original assault weapons ban and creates a new ban on magazines that hold more than seven rounds of ammunition.
Magazines that can hold more than seven rounds but not more than ten rounds and are currently possessed will be grandfathered in, but may only contain seven rounds of ammunition. Exceptions are made for large capacity magazines that are curios or relics.

Understood. If you already have a 10 round mag for your G26 you are good to go. However, you cannot put more than 7 rounds in it.
Future G26 mags will be limited to 7 round capacity.
I think the Glock guys in Austria are reprogramming their machines to produce 7 round mags for every size gun they have. Gaston will make a bundle with this new law as people get rid of their 13, 15, 17 whatever round Glock mags.

Wrong, read the text again. 10 rounders and up are no longer going to be grandfathered. 8 & 9 rounders will be grandfathered but you have a year to get them "retrofitted" to hold 7 rounds.

I doubt that... There would be no profit in it for Glock. We're talking R&D, testing, doing whatever modifications need made to make the 7rd mags (be it training machine operators, programming, whatever).
All so you can sell a few mags to a single state in the US?
There's no way I can make that make sense in my head.

No mention of retrofitting.

I think you're wrong. New Yorkers by and large hate guns and it wouldn't be worth it to retool to make a special product just for a tiny few people living in a stupid place.

I'm in agreement with you, but it wouldn't be too much "R&D" to make a longer follower and drill 3 less witness holes.
They would probably sell like 10 a year though...

Okay, you and I are reading the law differently. I will let it go at that.
Secondly, it will cost Gaston 50 cents to make a 7 round magazine. He will then sell it for $20. He may live in a socialist country but he is a ruthless capitalist and will go for the money.
I don't think much R&D or testing is involved. As far as I can tell Gaston uses the consumer as a Beta-tester and then makes changes based on feedback.
I am being hard on the old man.

If you voted for Obama you need to hang yourself. It's not lame at all. You all are a bunch of scumbags. Do us a favor and sell your guns and get lost and never be heard from again.

I doubt the R&D would be very expensive. Glock already has a reduced-round setup that they could just modify.
What might kill it though is that this will make Glocks less desirable in NY, so people may just sell their guns instead of buying new mags. It would not surprise me to find that several gunmakers pull out of that market altogether.
Now, if Glock REALLY wants to make a statement they could refuse to sell to LE agencies in NY. But I doubt that will happen.

Understand that NYS is controlled by NYC. Don't put all NYrs in one category. I'm as far west as you can go in the state and the people here are predominately pro-gun. If it wasn't for the "City" NYS would be viewed entirely on a diff level. That being said, it is what it is and we re basically screwed.
The only + thing I can hope for is officer discretion when it comes to enforcement. The same as DWI and disorderly conduct etc.

You're all missing the Forrest through the trees's. This is a defacto gun ban. It just happens it is easiest to pass in NY. It's coming for the rest of you as well. You think your free until your politicians sell you out. There will be a hand gun ban next.
The new bury your head in the sand mantra is that this is going to the courts. The AWB and the 10 round mag limit didn't. I don't know why this would.
Once again freedom is taken away with a stroke of a pen. If Hilter just knew how easy and bloodless it all could have been, his heairs would still be living high.

I can see the NY law being used as a guide by Mass, CT, NJ, Maryland, California, Illinois, and even Colorado and New Mexico. With some arm twisting other states will adopt it.
There will be a large market for Glock 7 round magazines.
