Need replacement server hard drive
It's for an old Dell Poweredge 2900. It's a 10K 73GB serial attached SCSI. I have replaced these before but it seems like they are getting harder and harder to find. I am not that familiar with serial attached SCSI drives, are there newer drives that are backward compatible?

You may be able to use a regular old SATA HDD. Most SAS backplanes accept SATA drives as well. That will keep the cost down.
I have an IBM x3500 server with SAS backplane and am running a SATA drive in it with no issues.
A 7200 RPM SATA drive is not going to be as fast, and the over all quality will not be quite as good (commercial grade vs consumer), but it should still work without issue.
Sent from my orifice.

It's part of a RAID 5 array so I don't want to go that route. I found a place online that has them for $50 without the tray. Cheaper then the last time I had to buy one for this particular server.

Ah, I didn't realize it was part of a RAID. Yeah, SATA definitely won't work then.
Glad you found something that will though!

At that price, maybe you would invest in a spare.

If this customer would pay me in a timely manner and see the necessity for a spare considering the ridiculous age of their server I would. But they will do neither so I am not putting my money up for a spare.
