gun oil. using motor oil?
i have done alot of research on this. i have recently started to use mobile 1 seynthic motorcycle motor oil as my oil for my gun. its 8 dollars a quart. and remington, hoppes, ect... is 2-4 dollars for 2 ozs.
was gonna start using greese until i talked to a old timer glock armour and he said absolutly no greese on glocks just a quality oil.
so comparing "gun oil" to motorcycle oil it really is the same if not better
just wondering if anyone else has seen or has been doing this.

I've used it on the outside, not on the innards though. If it works, that'd great.

When I went through the S&W armorers course and the remington course, both the instructors recommended mobile 1 oil as a cheaper alturnitive to buying the little bottles of gun oil

Echoes of WalterGA and several long dead threads.
Mobil 1 is a fine oil. Much better than WD40.

Why stop at Mobil 1. Step it up to Amsoil. I use Amsoil for the cars, Weapon Sheild for the weapons.

50/50 Mobil 1 and ATF for my AR bolts. Stays wet after hundreds of rounds, that's pretty much all I can ask for from any lube.

It's all about packaging and marketing. I'll be happy to go to Mobile 1, but which grade? or does it matter?

PLEASE, NEVER, ever USE wd40 ON A WEAPON.
It will gum it up - BAD.
WD40 has it's uses, but guns - NO!

I use straight up 30w oil in my browning. I dump it in liberally inside and spread with a paintbrush. I wipe it on the outside as well.
I probably use a half ounce in it every time i take it to the range.

also forgot to mention the easiest way to apply is to get a glass medicane dropper on my whole glock 19 inside and out i prob only use about 4-5 drops

I know that regular oil (dino oil) is slightly acidic. Don't know about synthetic. If it is ph neutral, I would think it would work well.

For the past 5 years I have used Mobile 1 20W-50 synthetic oil for my personal weapons, as well as used it on two deployments to Afghanistan. I have used it on all my personal weapons as well as my issued M4, M9, M249, M240B, M2, as well as a one time use on a MK19. It doesnt run like CLP and doesnt evaporate in the 130 degree temperatures.
Its against reg, but it did better than what I was issued.

Thats why I use it in my 1919. Thick, stays put, absorbs carbon, dirt, etc. When you clean the gun, just hose it out with gun scrubber and reapply more oil.

When I was a mere wisp of a child...
I remember cleaning/lubing my Savage .22 with 3-in-1 oil, using scraps from old undershirts as patches for the cleaning rod.
I know, I know...bread used to be 5 cents a loaf...

Chainsaw bar oil. Thicker than motor oil, cheaper, and stays where you put it when the gun gets hot.

Why bother with Mobil 1 synthetic? Its a gun, not an engine. Just buy some nice thick knockoff dino oil. The crap is designed to lubricate an engine spinning at 6,000RPMs, I assure you even the least effective of it is more than enough to protect your gun.

I been using Mobile 1 for years. I was seeing store bough gun oils burning off an AK after running a few hundred rounds out of it and heating it up.
I used everything CLP Rem oil and oil that came in gun cleaning kits. I started using Mobile 1 it doesnt burn off like the others do.
Its been over ten years since I bought a quart. I think it was around $4 to $5 then. I use it in all my guns now.
