Does the 590 with the 18 & 1/2 in. barrel hold 5 rounds in the mag tube or 6?

Looks good. Congrats. I saw the blackwater edition at the last gunshow, but they were asking $650 so I passed. I don't have a pump shotgun, but one of these 590's would certainly fill a spot

Not sure what is pictured but Choate makes a flush extension for the 590A1 that I have been running for while.

I got a heck of a deal new 590A1 Blackwater ghost ring XS sights speed feed stock for $485 before tax at gun show in Des Moines, IA. I have always been a 870 guy but this 590A1 seems to be a more solid built gun.

That's odd. An 18.5" should only hold 5 in the tube.

Correct, my 18.5 500 only holds 5 as well.

Maybe I am mistaken but last time I loaded her up I recall being able to put 6 in the tube with #7 in the chamber..... I'll have to recheck

I have read there is a possibility that pump shotguns will be banned. Cannot believe it would happen, but I remember seeing it somewhere.

Congrats! Love my 590a1, it's a tough no nonsense shotgun. Love the ghost ring sights as well, very nice and quick to aquire!

Were you sights hitting at point of aim? My XS sights on mine seemed to hit way low I finally got them up some but still need to go a little more.

Just pulled it out and confirmed it fits 6 2.75" shells in tube, 1 in the chamber and 4 more in the stock, total of 11 on a bone stock 18.5" 590a1. I knew I wasn't crazy! Lol

With no extension the 18.5" holds 5 in the tube of 2 3/4" I currently have a flush extension that brings me to 7 + 1.

chr_edw, I have a blue heeler that will do the same thing as your dog (if that is your dog in your avatar) when you throw something in the pool that sinks to the bottom...Its hilarious to watch with goggles on!

Guys I plan to take at least an 1.5'' off the stock tomorrow . I'll post pics when I'm finished...drives me crazy because it fits no one except Hickok45 or some other freak of nature.

Maybe it has something to do with the mag spring length or the follower since his holds 6 in the tube of his "bone stock 18.5 590a1."

According to Fred Choate, in that thread, his extension adds +1 to the stock 5 round mag tube (6 shells in the mag tube +1 in the chamber) with the spring & follower he supplies. According to others in that thread it holds 7 shells in the tube (7+1) with the stock Mossberg follower.

Fwiw, I just picked it up December 26 so if anything I'd imagine it would hold less rather than more. And it is bone stock.

I suspect that swapping out the follower alone for an aftermarket version may be enough for that extra round of capacity. I'll find out soon enough; I just ordered a 590A1 model 51517.
