Glock 17 vs Glock 26

Have a brand new gen 3 glock 26(12-2012)that I'm considering trading for a gen 3 g17 with 3-17 rnd mags and night sights. Primarily for concealed carry.

Should I do this trade in case of the possible ban on hi cap mags or just keep the 26 and wait to see what happens with the awb ?

Any info is appreciated

I'd sooner go with the G19.

I wouldn't trade for a G17 if its primary purpose is concealed carry.

magazine size shouldn't be your concern...size of gun should be.

A G-26 for CCW in FLA makes a lot more sense. The beauty of a G-26 is that it will take G-19 & G-17 mags. I'd just get a grip sleeve to ensure 100% functioning. Slap in a G-19/G-17 mag and you've got a handy home defense pistol as soon as you walk in the door.

Just use G17,G19 mags in it. G26 shoots better for me then the G17 did.

I would not trade a gun I liked. I would not trade a gun that is easier to carry for one that may be more difficult to carry unless there was something substantial to be gained. Since both would take the 17 round magazines the only thing gained would be the velocity increase which probably would not be a substantial gain in a real situation. I like the Glock 34 more than the Glock 17 and especially for carry I like the Glock 26 more than either. So no, I would not.

So most likely ill just ride out the whole potential ban on hi cap mag situation and pick up a 17 when the funds are available.

26 is my favorite Glock. No way I would do that.

I like the 17 but I haven't seen a big and good reason to go with it over the 26

I'd say go for it. In jeans and a t-shirt I can conceal a 17. Three hi-caps are increasing in value daily.

The 17 gives you a longer sight radius, light rail, more velocity and more fire power. You'll be able to get a 26 later but you might not be able to get the hi-caps.

You also mention night sights... does your 26 have them? That would definitely tip the scales in favor of the 17.

I'd go 17 all the way!

If your goal is concealment, you are better off keeping the G26. But, YMMV.

See, I probably wouldn't be going through this issue if I had a few 15 round mags with grip adapters for the 26, and now, since all the commotion regarding the potential of a mag capacity ban or a new AWB, 17 rnd mags are NOWHERE to be found. and I ABSOLUTELY REFUSE to pay high dollar for mags that are 30.00 new from my local gun shop(when they had them)

Do I wait to see what happens, or do I make the trade for the G3 17 with NS and 3-17 rnd mags(one with +2 extension)

?

I see your dilemma and understand how you feel.
I felt that way when I pondered getting caught short by potential/probable change in legislation.
What I found was, by buckling down and assessing resources and options, I traded other resources (mags) I had, with a fellow GT'er who hooked me up with several KCI 17 rounders to supplement my g26 magazines!

Keep the 26! You'll see a trend in the future, trust me here, where people will be shifting to smaller and more easy to conceal guns. The 26 will be more in demand.
I may be right/wrong, but I've owned, bought, sold and traded many glock guns over past four yo five years. I always went back to the 26,19 and 30 in that order.

Look at advice given and shared above. Well founded advice.

I had the 17 first, then picked up a 26 Gen 4 and love it.

I carry the 26 but the 17 still gets a lot of mileage between the nightstand and the range.

I love my 17 but would never consider carrying it as a conceiled weapon. If your main concern is conceilability I'd just keep the 26 & try finding a few 17rnd mags just to have.

If you are going to be a 'one gun guy' find yourself a G19. If you are going to own several, than the 17 and 26 would be good choices. The G19 is an excellent platform and extremely popular for a reason.

The smart money says to pick up a couple of 17 mags now. You can use them at the range with your 26 or on the nightstand. Worse case scenario, when you eventually get a 17, if they're only coming with 10 round mags, you'll have pre-ban ones.

I plan to pick up a G21 mag or two for the same reason.

Pretty sound advice, IMO.

G26 for concealed carry. G17 for open uniform carry. You CAN conceal a G17, but it takes more effort than concealing a G26. With a "standard" G26 magazine in place and a DeSantis "Nemesis" holster, you can conceal a G26 in a pants pocket. Impossible with a G17.

Don't trade any Glock. Purchase the G17!!

Trade for the G-17, you can get another 26 later, but if a second AWB passes, the G-17 with three 17 rd mags is a bonus. Another G-26 should come along, too bad you cant just buy the G-17 and have the almost best of both worlds. I have the G-22/23/27 combo and am very happy. I shoot the G-23 best.

That's what I was thinking, but funds are a bit tight for being after Christmas and all. I do have a no lock Smith 642 that i might sell to fund a G17, but its currently at S&W being replaced due to the flaking issues...
Otherwise, I get to deal with these Yahoo's trying to sell G17s for 799.99 because they're hi cap mags with it.

Get the 17 just to get the mags. You should be able to get another 26 but 17 round mags?
