I googled the city before posting. What I was saying is I would have expected it from an inner city area. Race doesn't factor in to my post. It's the attitudes of the vast majority of people living in those areas. My last post was a bit extreme.

They are all volunteers, at least one of whom is a LEO. Volunteerism runs deep for those who want to serve and protect.
RIP guys. Condolences to your families, who were expecting all of you to return home safely tonight.

Yes... I'd say so. And kudos for recognizing that.

Horrible situation. Hopefully the killer gets what he deserves in the afterlife.

First, thoughts and prayers to the fallen. This is a tough time to lose a family member.
Second, regarding the quote above.. that's what I was thinking. NY is *almost* the model of gun control for Bloomberg and his ilk, and it still didn't stop a single thing.
Obviously, they will simply say NY doesn't go far enough.

No worries. The law of karma dictates he will get exactly what he deserves in his subsequent incarnations.
God bless the victims and the families and friends.

Thanks to those who have simmered down on their own. Those who have not, this is neither the time or the place for it.

I wish there was a way to stop these things. It is crazy. Banning guns or certain types of guns isn't the answer but I wish we could think outside of politics and come to some solutions.
I bet that those that knew this mutt will say something like "I knew something like this was going to happen."
If some one is mental around you turn them in. In my neck of the woods the police nor mental health will do nothing to get the people off the streets but at least there will be a record of trying.

We definitely need to reform our mental health system. That will do a lot more than any gun control law will.

The idea of this ambush is terrifying. These guys volunteered for their community and died for doing nothing more than responding to help their fellow man. I have this image in my head of these guys rolling up, sizing up the fire and gearing up, preparing to stretch hoselines to fight this fire. They were shot without warning, without reason for doing their jobs.
This is almost surreal to me. I don't know how to defend against this. These families of the fallen will be in my prayers from this day on.
This is senseless and beyond reason murder.

Shooter was convicted of killing his grandmother in 1981. Was out on parole. Two Firefighters killed, others injured. Seven homes destroyed. Absolutely horrific. What has this world come to?

prayers and thoughts to those who died and injured , very very sad
they released one of the 911 calls and you can hear one fire fighter say they were being fired on , seems to be an assault rifle . ofcourse not confirmed
the guy killed himself . career criminal .

Lets hope this doesn't give any more wackos any ideas. I don't want to run on my fellow Fire/EMS people... let alone get stuck in one of these myself. Scares me sometimes that the GF runs rescue in my county...

As a volunteer firefighter about an hour away from this incident, I am shaken to the core. Who's safe anymore, if firefighters are getting shot trying to help others. My thoughts and prayers go out to my fallen brothers and their families during this most difficult time.
Firefighters prayer:
When I am called to duty, God
Wherever flames may rage
Give me strength to save a life
Whatever be its age.
Let me embrace a little child
Before it is too late
Or save an older person from
The horror of that fate.
Enable me to be alert
And hear the weakest shout,
and quickly and efficiently
To put the fire out.
I want to fill my calling
To give the best in me,
To guard my friend and neighbor
And protect their property.
And, if, according to your will,
While on duty I must answer death’s call;
Bless with your protecting hand
My family, one and all.

That happens fairly regularly, at least firefighters being fired at because a gang banger needs his victim to expire and the meat wagon is wanting to take him away still breathing.

This hits close to home in more ways than one! Prayers to the families.
Here is a link to the radio transmissions between one of the shot firefighters and dispatch.
Twists my stomach listening to that. A former member of our dept. moved up there a year ago or so. As far as I know he was not involved.

wow...what a tragedy. I know what the families, friends and their FF brothers are going through. RIP.
On another note...gun owners are getting as bad as the anti's. Every time something happens does not mean is should immediately used as material for your agenda. There are times when respect and restraint is the correct path.
This has nothing to do with NYC, the gun control in the city or the opinion of the mayor.

That audio is terrifying!
They were pinned down by a murdererer using what the Fire Officer described as an assault rifle.
