Yep, mid 2010 production is A-OK. The new laptops are sealed with some sort of epoxy so you can't get to any of the individual components after you get the case open, from what I understand.

Each of those updates took about 15 minutes max. Memory is more along the 30 second to 1 minute change out....

"...There are two key objections to kit you can't easily upgrade or repair. The first is practical and the second is philosophical.
Practical first. Having a non-removable battery isn't ideal, because batteries have a finite lifespan: my ageing MacBook Pro's battery went all bulgy a year ago, but the laptop itself is doing just fine. Traditional Apple batteries are pricey enough, so I wouldn't fancy paying Apple prices to replace the kind of battery you see in the new MacBook Pro.
It's nice to be able to upgrade the RAM, too, but I'm not sure that's a deal-breaker here: the only time I've had to upgrade laptop RAM is because I under-specced it in the first place to save a few quid. 8GB or 16GB on-board seems future-proof enough for three years. The other thing that's likely to go, the SSD drive, should see third-party options appearing before long...

This is what I'm talking about. If that's not a concern, more power to you.

OP - I hope you enjoy the new Mac, I know lots of people that own them and love them.

The first computer we had resided in an old filing cabinet filled with wired cards. The keyboard was pieced together from miscellaneous buttons from adding machines and cash registers and was housed in a nicely stained wooden box just like the monitor that use to be an old b&w TV.

The 8086 my Dad bought had an amber monitor as well. I remember always wanting a green one. At the time I think the whole PC cost about $2200.

Thanks for proving my point with your latest thread IndianaMatt.

User, not platform. You do know that the software you just recently discovered has been out for ages now right? You also realize that its use is in direct conflict with the prime source of revenue for the place you decided to announce your epiphany right?

Congrats! I just sold my 2006 15" MBP for $512 last year. It cost me nothing the whole 5 years I had it and ran like a champ. Don't listen to any of the haters. The Mac laptop is better than a pc laptop. And this coming from someone that builds desktops. You simply cannot get the specs of a new apple laptop in any other laptop for less than 75% the price. And then you lose the os which is the best part, very efficient.

Been building pcs since whenever the first 750mhz processor came out. It was hot **** for a while. It just isn't what it used to be though.

The Okie Corral

First computer was an Apple IIe. Still worked and in good condition when I boxed it up about 10 years ago. Think my parents paid about $2,000 for it in I think 1985. Color screen and two 5.25" floppy drives.

Sometimes I wonder if I should try to sell it, but for now it's happily collecting dust in the rafters.

I remember like 4th or 5th grade, our library had a few of these. There was a waiting list each day to use them. It was the shiat!!

This machine was basically where I learned to type and use a mouse.

When I go to help clean my moms garage this or next month I might just do that.

I hopefully have some disks I can use. Prior to the boxing, I found out the hard way that sticking your disk boxes by the window is not a good idea.

I'm using the MAC computer (not laptop) for the last 4 years. Previously owned 4 PCs over the period of 10 years or so.
No way - I'm not coming back to PC - I'm not a computer guru, but rather very basic user and just need something that works.
Mac does it much better than any of the PCs that I owned.
No problems, no viruses no nothing. Keep on running and all the PCs were doing was to give me constant headaches. Good for You - congratulations!

Everyone has choices.
You can build a (PC)Hot Rod you can tinker with that'll run circles around anything. It can also explode into a ball of smoking blue screen if you're not careful.

Or, you can buy a (MAC) that has 1 speed.
Will run till the next ice age? yes!
However,
Want to upgrade it - sorry
Want to make it faster - sorry
Want to add something - maybe

Also, IMPE, PC's were made for business applications
MAC's were built and have been cutlivated for graphics, music, art

Why are there still a PC's? I believe because Apple wouldn't license the technology.

You can also build a computer and install the Apple OS on it (Hackintosh). Plan to try and do that myself later this or next month on my laptop, hopefully (I keep putting it off).

Figure I'll do Windows 8 (queue the haters), whatever the latest Apple OS is, and some Linux distro (probably Peppermint).

I can also built a moat, a ten-foot-high razor wire fence around my house, landmines, loudspeakers that play Nickelback at 200 decibels 24 hours a day, and hire guards armed with modified Glock carbines that I have made. My enemies will stay away.

Then, I can return to my PC castle where I can install water-cooled towers, worry about rootkits and kernels and such, and sit in a homemade La-Z-Boy that I can poop in while I game.

But...

The Okie Corral

It would take me 19 minutes to setup a dual boot 1990 technology computer running XP with Linux.

15 if it was just Linux, and adding OSx would add another 30 minutes or so.

If I used a computer from this decade you'd never have spent as much money as you already did.
