Pocket gun advice

I just picked up my second AR and have filled most of the gaps in my wish list.

There are three things I've been wanting and in order they are:

Reliable pocket gun in a 9mm or bigger caliber
AK47
.45 ACP

If I could take out #1 and 3 on that list at once, bonus!

A bit of info: I carry every day, every where and sometimes my G27 (IWB) is impractical for the situation, but I deal with it and carry anyways.
I have been looking into a pocket gun for my days when I have to dress up, ect. While pocket draw isn't ideal, and neither is a 5 or 6 round mag, I'd feel a lot more comfortable with that than no gun.

I have been looking at the Kahr cm9 and cm40 (or pm) and at the cw40. I have held both and the cw is definitely a bit bigger. How practical would it be for pocket carry versus a cm40? Is there another .45 I should be looking at? Anybody have a preference? Thanks in advance for the help!

Have you ever considered a derringer? If not check out www.bondarms.com even if this does fit the bill for your pocket gun you may just have another gap to fill after you look into them. That's what happened to me.

I have a Kahr PM9. I have carried it in my pocket using a Nemesis, or PJ pocket holster, but it pushes the limit on a pocket gun. In my opinion, the Kahr P380 and Ruger LCP are better pocket guns, for those occasions when you need deep concealment so you don't have to go unarmed.

The .45 is not really a pocket gun, though I'm sure some will say they have carried it that way. Compare it in size to your G27. It's not appreciably smaller. It is a tad thinner.

You may want to look at Springfield's XDS. Since I am 5'-5", it is a little hard for me to pocket carry but it is doable.
The XDS may fit 1 and 3 for you.
I have one and find myself carrying it more often than my G30 now.
Recoil for this small pistol is very manageable. I have over 1200 rounds thru mine without any issues.

If you're going to carry a heavy pistol in your pocket I suggest you seriously consider the use of suspenders either outside the shirt or underneath the shirt. Trust me on this one.

When it's shorts and t shirt weather or when I have to dress up, I pocket carry my LC9. I have had zero issues with the gun and would recommend it fully.

I was going to suggest a XDs too.
It's the only, maybe, pocket 45 I can think of.

The best pocket gun going is a J frame Airweight like the model 442/642/438/638 with 'hammerless' or shrouded hammers.
These are easy to bring into action because of their shape, they are much more reliable and likely to work when needed and fire a round similar to 9mm with the option of heavier bullets.
I own small 9mms, a BG380 pistol, Bond .357mag along with several other pocket guns, but the J frame .38sp is the way to go.

S&W 342 ti Air Weight Centennial is my personal favorite pocket gun.

I've got a Trace Tarco pocket holster for my CM9 and it fits right in my back pocket like a wallet. The XDS is very similar to size and weight to the CM9 but is chambered in .45. It should also work well for pocket carry. Both pistols are what I consider upper end in size for pocket carry though. The CW series of Kahr pistols are nice but definately a bit larger than the CM/PM series and not something I'd consider for pocket carry.

My vote goes to the Kahr PM9. Its been flawlessly reliable for me and its a great size. Its very pleasing to shoot and surprisingly accurate.

It is SLIGHTLY bigger than an LCP.

A true pocket gun calls for a Ruger LCP. For the 45, belt carry, I'd look to the HK-45c.

save yourself a few bucks and get a CM9 instead of the PM9.

I like my CM9, but use a D. Hume OWB for it. You hardly know its there.

Yeah the CM9 came out about 6 months after I got my PM9. I would have gone the cheaper route if I'd waited.

Dont feel bad. I was shopping for a PM9 when the CM9 was released. Both great guns. I cant believe how shootable they are being so small. I've gone through 300 round sessions without being bothered at all. Can't say the same about the PM40 i used to own though.

I like my keltec pf9. I pocket carry it quite comfortably in my right front pocket in a desantis pocket holster. I believe it is still the thinnest 9mm on the market.

I have found shrouded or "hammerless" snubbies, such as my own Airweight SW 642, hard to beat in pocket carry. The Speer Gold Dot seems to open up like a power assisted umbrella in a strong breeze. I have heard from reliable sources that the Jacksonville Fla. police dept. carries the 642 in droves as a BUG, though I don't know their preferred ammo.

Just this old Confederate's .02 worth.
