My Colt is DONE!
Some of you may have read my thread about my Colt SP1 upper I got about a month ago. I have been chipping away at it for a few weeks. I put it on a Nodak Spud 601 slick side lower with a Fulton Armory LPK in it. I aged the lower parts with naval jelly for that old grey look. The furniture is period correct A1, I wet sanded with 800/1500, kiwi shoe polish then micro fiber buffed them to a shine. I like the hard candy black look with the retro's. Put a GI olive drab sling on and an M8 bayonet.
I am happy with how it came out. With all the forgings the upper is from 70-73 but I wanted to do an early 60's military model build. I have a 3 prong flash hider but I am not real sure I want to monkey with taking off of the original. I can't wait to take it out to the desert and shoot it.

Very nice, congrats!
Something to be said about the "original" AR15.

If I ever own an AR-15, that's the way I want it to look. I never did like the looks of the M4 style too much, but that look is awesome.

Thanks. There are SP1 uppers out there for the taking, no better time than now. You can actually buy all new A1 furniture and an SP1 Legacy upper (brand new) from fulton armory.

That's pretty cool.
If I buy another AR it's gonna be a 20". I want an A4 so I can play with clone configurations.

I was thinking about it, but all I have read states that the mottled look is supposed to be period correct/desirable. Do you have a nice black one you would like to sell?

That looks great!
I've really gotten into the 20" AR's. I like them a whole lot more than the carbines. As a matter of fact, I only have one M4 carbine now. I sold the rest and purchased more 20" A2's!
Some will call me crazy but hey, I like what I like and I shoot them better. I know, it's a personal thing but it's what works for me.
I'd like to do a built like yours! It looks great! It's so retro it's cool!
