Some construction companies and oil-well service companies I deal with have showers on-site for their people, and I'd imagine that least some of them have undocumented 'employees' there as well.

It's possible and even legal if you don't skirt any laws like driving without a license, but it ain't easy and can't be good for the kid to not know anything about the world other than what his parents know.

My neighbor from across the street fell off his riding mover on the way home. He was way too drunk and underage. County cop told him to get up and escorted him home.
Outside of city limits things work a little different.

The best part of having undocumented people is that when you kill one off, they never really existed.

There is a great Documentary on Netflix called "Erasing David." A guy in England went to great links to "erase" himself from the grid. Then gave himself a head start and hired 2 private detectives to try and find him. He resorted to living in abandon buildings and out in the woods to disappear.

It would not be worth it to give up the comforts of civilization to vanish... No Bank account, no electricity, no phone, no internet or email... it would be tough. Even the homesteaders in Alaska have fuel and electric services.

If you wanted to exist in civilization, you would probably have to adapt to a homeless lifestyle... keeping a low enough profile to not to attract any attention from law enforcement.

Google yourself sometime. It is pretty unnerving how much info you will find about yourself.

There's a book called "How to be invisible." You should look it up.

Let me tell you. It is NOT cheap to be invisible. For almost all of us, it is not worth it.

"he tore up his social security card"......tearing up your card doesn't suddenly make you disappear off the books......it simply means you now have no card. If a card had been issued, there is a file on that person.

If income is not reported to the IRS by employers, you don't exist to them, and they don't report wages/earnings to SS.

I have owned remote property in 3 of Arizonas more rural counties..........and I can affirm that there are MANY people living this way, most by choice....and most are happy.

I have known people that have had kids that "don't exist"......think about it.....
Birth at home, no SS#.
Home schooled, no enrollment records.
Don't ask for assistance, none given......and in fact many rural counties are hurting so bad, they will gladly "overlook" the 'folks' living this way as long as no one makes a stink.

Certainly have no intention of dropping out of society. I like my life as it is.

In reading the responses and doing some research, there seems to be a sub culture of people who live on the fringes of society. Homeless/transients are among them. Certainly illegal aliens are among them although some get false ID to manipulate the system. I know there are people in the south west US that live out in the desert in RVs, shacks, tents etc. Not to mention hippie communes.

The system however seems to be set up so that you are dependent on it. They make sure from cradle to grave that you participate in it. It is virtually impossible not to. Even the most remote place in the country has at the very least a county government set up to look after the people in it.

I would guess that "not existing" on paper is not realistic. Existing below the radar (not making enough money to pay taxes, or have a bank account for example) or existing at a level where the govt doesn't care you exist might be more doable (though not very desirable).
