Obama said if he owned a shotgun it would probably look like that one.

I can only hope that the cops can prove that the one who fled was acting in concert with the one who died. Felony murder is a useful tool to get rid of those who need to be gone.

If I was the praying type, I'd pray the victims become gun carriers and that they had good insurance.

Let's see...
- 14 years old
- shotgun
- robbery
- stolen car
- 4:30am
None of those things should be associated with anyone of any age. The city should stick his loving parents with a bill for the cleanup - after the lady goes after his estate (who am I kidding?) for her car, pain and suffering.

The insurance company should sue his mother for recovery of the pay out on the car. Every dime she ever gets, half of it goes towards the insurance company. Do that every time something like this happens and see if the parents start paying attention to what their kids are doing.

That is actually a good idea.
This idea might work, at least in a punitive sense, until such time as the children "thugs" are either emancipated as adults by the court system due to their criminal activity(ies), or they reach the age of legal adulthood in their State of residence.

If the civil court finds that the parent owes the insurance company $XXX.XX, it no longer matters whether or not the kid is even alive the next day, the parent still owes the money via court order.

The title of that article is extremely misleading. The kid who died does not appear to be the same person who carjacked the woman with the Dodge Charger; he was driving the stolen Chevy Malibu.
Having said that...boo freakin' hoo.

Understand 100%... my point was intimating as to what point in time the parent(s) would be liable for their children thugs and thereby would have higher incentive to actually participate in their lives more so than being acting like someone running a B & B and not caring who comes or goes as long as the check comes on time every month.
Besides, everyone already hates insurance companies, so no one would care too much more if they went after parents of underage felons.

I'm certainly not gonna lose any sleep over junior perp's premature demise, but as for, "he was just about to turn his life around," well, it does happen. My father's a perfect example. Oldest of 9 kids, and poor like most of us have never experienced, he and another guy started committing armed robberies on mom&pop gas stations when they were 16 years old. Got caught of course. My dad was fortunate to be sent to the "boys' town" jail instead of real jail, but the experience straightened him out somewhat I guess, and my mom took care of the rest. Raised two Eagle scouts.
Might be the exception, but it does happen.

They certainly can - that's basic insurance law. It's easiest to sue his estate, but he owns nothing, so they could probably make a case against the parent. However, insurance companies are there for profit, so they don't sue unless there is actually money to be made. There is a 99.99765% chance his mother lives off our tax money.
