The taxes here are high. But when I call 911 the cops or fire department comes and the fire department is much better than the leo. But will your community actually volunteer in a department nowadays? Most areas have seen dramatic drop offs in community volunteerism.

Why did the rating not improve? Here the rating is much better for those with full time manned stations. Last year my insurance wanted to triple my rates due to my location and rating.
I'm actually closer to a VFD that isn't in my coverage area. I went and had their chief sign a letter saying they would respond to a fire at my house so my insurance would be cut drastically.

Just want to point out that the Aleutian Islands as part of Alaska was invaded by Japanese in WW2.

As to additional tax and value received, it's irrelevant. Many Americans pay taxes for a dod that gives them exactly zero value. Many Americans pay for a fed. govt. that bails out wingtippers on wall street, from which they receive not value at all. Why should anyone care when you puff and blow over your bruised wallet? It's irrelevant. It just doesn't matter.
|
For local taxes like CF is talking about, why shouldn't he get personally involved like he is? Why are you getting into it? It affects him, not you.
For federal taxes, everyone should pay their fair (equal) share. Then you can reasonably tell people to shut up about paying taxes. Telling people to shut and and pay when they pay an extremely higher amount of money than you do is stupid (and not cool, of course).
Cool?

In the War of 1812 (actually in 1813, IIRC), Washington DC was looted and arsoned by the Redcoats.

Insane. No. The U.S. has been happily safe from a chaotic world due to the Pacific and Atlantic oceans which provided a happy isolation from the stupid wars of stupid people the world over. These two oceans are still in place. They remain remarkably effective.
Not invaded in 200 years? Think back to 1812.
I criticize the dod for the same reason others criticize FEMA, etc. Yesterday afternoon I went in a Wendy's for a Frosty. Outside I saw a serviceman with a duffle bag walking toward the base. When I had paid, I went out to the car and drove down the street looking for that man. I could not find him among the buildings, etc. If I could have, I would have offered him a ride out to the base. I have no beef with servicemen. But I will not quietly go along with the outrageous waste driven by the dod and its contractors who together suck off tax money far beyond what is necessary or needed for national defense.

I trust business owners to the same degree that they trust unionized employees. A good employer is not afraid of good employees working together for their own best interest. A bad employer and its investors deserve nothing but trouble... in spades.

So why do you believe that one side should be allowed to engage in collusion and the other side should not be allowed?
There are two sides that you say dont trust each other. So both sides have the exact same rules should apply to the same side.

At issue is a local tax matter. The complaints airs are typical of those who only want what they want at the local level. They have not yet learned that not only is the U.S. Army not a "Army of one," but that the local community like the state and the nation is not comprised of or purposed for the satisfaction of "the one."
Fair? Fair for the devotees of Rand and company is of course the robber baron vision of America. Happily America sees things differently. America sees things in terms of "We the people." That chaffs the post-modern robber baron aspirants. Tough. They'll get better. Just Hand eliminate their drinking the Koch koolaid.

I agree. Everyone should pay the exact same dollar amount in taxes. You get a tax bill and send it in. Everyone pays the same, no deductions. It would make taxes easy.

The irony of the situation here is that you fail to realize that a very small group of people have tilted the table in their favor, at the direct expense of others. I aim to tilt it in mine for the benefit of the larger group -- and myself because myself matters the most. The public can come along or they can fight me. I suspect they will come along. No taxpayer deserves to be held hostage by a scum sucking union.

How is this scum sucking Union doing this? I'm President of my local and know it is beyond their power. You are being asked by the Board of Commissioners made up of Fire District residents, not the evil union to have a tax increase. These guys are the ones in charge of the money. Not the Fire Dept, and certainly not the union.
If the Union is asking the board for the increase they can easily say no. If the trustees or commissioners think the increase is worth it to the people they can move foreword.
Unless they are already collecting less than their taxable levy it will have to go to referendum.Good luck trying to pass a tax increase in this economy. It will go over like a lead balloon.

There is some disconnect in claiming the oceans prevent invasion and then pointing out invasion despite the oceans.
Also, truly not meaning to be pedantic, but 2012-1812=200 (I guess you could argue the end date, but whatever).
