Glock 17L compensated

Hi there. I have a glock 17L serial # DBXXX that I just received as a birthday present. It was my uncles gun and he passed away in 1991. Anyone know how rare this is? Also I read glock recalled the compensated barrel. Is it safe to shoot? What is the value? I have the original plastic case, 2 factory mags and cleaning rod. Thanks...

I wouldnt categorize it as "rare". However, it is a first generation 17L, one of the first few batches of Glock 17L's to be imported into the US around July 1988. I believe the ported barrels had issues surrounding the design of the ports cut into the barrel's. There are several old posts regarding 17L ported barrels. If you wanted to shoot it - I would have an experienced gunsmith check the barrel to insure there are no cracks. Another option would be to purchase a new 17L barrel and save the original. I have a 17L (DAxxx) in mint condition that I keep in the safe, and a later model that I shoot for fun.

Enjoy it!

Thank you for replying. I contacted glock and didnt get any answers to the same questions. Am thinking about getting a wolf barel and saving the original. Will post some pics asap. The other option is to get a 34 or try and find a gen 3 17L

I too have a DAxxx 17L with the original ported barrel. When I bought it used several years ago it came sporting a second generation adjustable rear sight and no magazines, (what do you expect for California,) an additional Glock non-ported barrel, and an entire G17 upper in the Tupperware box. (sans label)

All for $550.
