What is better? Glocks. Easy question. Yes I've owned both. Frankly HK is over hyped.
Not to bash glock because I own and like them very much and never had problems with mine. But have you taken apart a glock and, say, an hk or a sig and compared the quality of the parts? There's just something to holding/shooting an hk that I don't get when holding/shooting a glock.

I like that fact that I can take one pin punch (no hammer needed) and detail strip my Glock in a very short time. Frankly I like HK and Sig. I don't like HK being treating the civilian market as an afterthought that isn't worthy of the efforts that others make towards it. Yes I'm law enforcement but I like to think how they effect others that aren't. Out of the three Glock feels better in my hand and I just trust more. From what I'm seeing prices have gone insane on Sig and HK also.

Are HKs really superior?

Only in their own minds...

Quote:
HK. Because you suck. And we hate you.

An open letter to the gun community from HK’s marketing department: In a world of compromises, some people put the bullets in the magazine backwards…But it doesn’t matter, because our gun is on the cover of the Rainbow Six video games. Look how cool that SEAL coming out of the water looks… If you buy a $2,000 SOCOM, you will be that cool of an operator too. And chicks will dig you.

At HK, we stuck a piston on an AR15, just like a bunch of other companies have done, dating back to about 1969. However ours is better, because we refuse to sell it to civilians. Because you suck, and we hate you.

Our XM8 is the greatest rifle ever developed. It may melt, and it doesn’t fit any accessories known to man, but that is your fault. If you were a real operator, you would love it. Once again, look at Rainbow Six, that G36 sure is cool isn’t it? Yeah, you know you want one.

And by the way, check out our new HK45. We decided that humans don’t need to release the magazine with their thumbs. If you were a really manly teutonic operator, you would be able to reach the controls. Plus we’ve fired 100,000,000 rounds through one with zero malfunctions, and that was while it was buried in a lake of molten lava, on the moon. If you don’t believe us, it is because you aren’t a real operator.

By the way, our cheap, mass-produced, stamped sheet metal guns like the G3 and MP5 are the bestest things ever, and totally worth asinine scalpers prices, but note that cheap, mass-produced, stamped sheet metal guns from other countries are commie garbage. Not that it matters, because you’re civilians, so we won’t sell them to you anyway. Because you suck, and we hate you, but we know you’ll be back. We can beat you down like a trailer park wife, but you’ll come back, you always do.

Buy our stuff.
Sincerely
HK Marketing DepartmentHK. Because you suck. And we hate you.

I know you didn't write the above letter.

But I like the mag release. I wish glock would do the same. I still use my thumbs to eject mags. Walther saw the light and copied the design. Maybe there is hope...

I've had HK's. Never impressed vs. Glock. If I need a gun to go high round count I choose Glock again.

I retired from BMW so i agree but Glock's not much for me i tried to like them and for the money there a solid choice but the Gen4's and latest Glock's i'm not into being a beta tester.
For a striker the PPQ has my interest alot!! Ice i think saying a Glock is a Camry is stretching it but to each his own!!

Has HK ever had issues like the Glock????

brass to face, FRTB issues, frame rail recall, faulty mag catches?????

Glock is becoming the Yugo of the handgun world....

i don't own one yet, but i would rather pay $1K for a gun that does not throw brass in my face than buy two glocks that are POS!!!!

Ok, I'll play. I'm bored...

While glocks are no H&K they are FAR from POS(es?). I have never had either of my glocks.

I have to carry one on duty and feel comfortable doing so. I even brought one for a BUG/off duty.

Come on dude, at least OWN an H&K before typing stupid comments!

Oh, and my HK45c is on my hip right now. Feels so right!

I just traded a 21 for a HK 45C and I'm quite happy so far, I EDC Glocks and will continue to do so, I see no use in carrying a $1000 pistol that if forced to use will be gone forever. Glocks I can afford to replace, HK not so much. Fit and finish of my 45C is awesome, it just feels solid, the trigger is awful though. Range trip tomorrow.

Glocks will run. HKs will run. Glocks will malfunction relatively rarely. HKs will malfunction relatively rarely.

I'd feel I had a reliable, accurate pistol carrying either. I feel I have a slightly more reliable, accurate pistol carrying an HK. Todd Green's endurance tests sealed the deal for me in that regard. When someone figures out how to truly, fairly, and empirically test 'em, then we'll know. Until then, it's all down to perception.

I've heard all the crying at some point. Some are legitimate issues and some are issues on internet forums that real users don't seem to experience. I myself finally experience brass to face with my gen3 17C recently. Stripped the slide, cleaned everything, oiled it properly, and now no more brass to face. I guess with Glock now making over a million new guns per year we should expect a few issues and more than a few internet complaints. I guess HK is just perfect right? I guess they have never had a problem with any of their uber perfect weapons? I guess (for example) the following never actually happened?

"FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

February 10, 2000

HECKLER & KOCH, INC. (HK) ANNOUNCES RECALL
OF UMP AND USC

Sterling, VA -- Heckler and Koch, Inc. (HK) is voluntarily recalling a
quantity of Universal Machine Pistol’s (UMP) and Universal
Sporting Carbine’s (USC) shipped since the last quarter of 1999,
effective immediately.
This recall was prompted by recent reports of approximately
twenty instances of breakage of the operating handle. The
operating handle, manufactured of a polymer composite, is used
to retract the bolt, allowing the user to load or unload the
weapon. If the operating handle breaks, the firearm is then
rendered inoperable.
HK is recalling UMP’s with serial numbers 163-001001 through
163-001200. USC’s with serial numbers 47-000102 through
47-002600 are also being recalled.
"While there is no possibility of harm to the user as a direct
result of operating handle breakage, HK is initiating this recall,
effective immediately, in the interest of the safety of our
customers," said Eoin Stafford, HK President. "This action only
serves to underscore HK’s commitment to providing the highest
quality product and best service possible. Most importantly, we
thank our customers for their patience and understanding as we
move to resolve this as quickly as possible."
All of the recalled firearms will be fitted with a newly-designed
operating handle by HK’s technical department at no charge.
Current UMP and USC product on order will be refitted prior to
shipment. The new operating handle is currently in production and
HK expects to commence installation within the next six to eight
weeks.
HK is recommending that USC and UMP owners not use their
firearms until the new handle is installed. Owners are requested
to please contact HK at (703) 450-1900, ext. 226 to confirm
shipment and installation procedure."

Sorry but I buy my guns new if possible. I'm sure you did the honest thing and told every potential buyer that the guns you were selling were in you opinion faulty? I doubt it. Now that you have made a Yugo comparison I assert you are not only a troll but have little knowledge about guns and cars.

Name calling doesn't do much to make you appear older than a child, either.

Relax.

Calm down.

Handguns are just tools.

All of my Glocks and my HK's work fine. I wouldn't own them if they didn't. I'd also shoot a SIG, a Beretta, a S&W or just about any other quality pistol if you handed it to me. I tend not to gripe and moan about what is essentially good equipment.

I get a laugh out of people who think HK is garbage, and get the same sort of laugh out of those who think it's stuff only some elite special forces Jedi use. To me, both positions are equally humorous.

With regards to the recall, jbglock, on the USC/UMP (from over twelve years ago) this just means HK recognized a potential issue with a firearm they designed, was willing to admit it, and sought to remedy the issue.

In addition, for the purpose of this conversation, HK has never issued a factory recall or "parts upgrade" with regards to any pistol they have manufactured, past or present.

You must also bare in mind that HK is not exactly a slouch in the world's small arms market and produces a large variety of firearms. These include rifles, sub-machine guns, light machine guns, and even automatic grenade launchers.

HK is not exactly a one trick pony like Glock and the vast majority of what they produce works, and in fact, works very well.

Close to a hundred thousand reloads through 2 gen3 23 Glocks and not one kaboom. Probably close to the same amount of factory loaded ammunition and still no kaboom. Of course I don't hot load and try to turn my 40cal gun into a 10mm. If I need a 10mm then I simply buy a 10mm gun. I mean I could start making up facts like you but then what is the point?

Funny but I don't see the boys from the local SO yanking the lights off their guns. Once again though no gun is perfect, including HK. HK is so perfect yet I see not one local agency (including my own) put them to use. Everyone (other than those buying their own guns) is using either Sig or Glock. Shall we now talk about the trooper that got killed long ago when the firing pin broke in his P7?

I'm sorry but with HK it is called an upgrade not a recall since then. Of course Glock knows that trick also.

Not really. I mean I guess you are emotionally invested in your gun and all. For me all of them except a few are tools. They are the tools I am required to have to perform a job. A job that includes being able to protect myself and protect the public (even those obviously unstable such as yourself). I have no problem ditching a tool if I feel a significantly better one exists. No HK in my holsters though. I've had them and although good tools they just didn't seem good enough to me.

If you are emotionally invested you really should avoid the next link...

I think if anyone sees anything they feel is in violation of the rules they should report it as is proper.

Seems we both dropped this discussion over 2 weeks ago. Maybe it isn't our adult level that should be questioned but your ability to tell what date things are posted and not stir things up that are over like a little child.
