Let's just say the Brown Pelican isn't our state bird, it's actually the mosquito (or "moustique" as we say in French).
Someone said that earlier in the thread.. I was afraid it might be true!
Really, the bugs are worst on the hottest summer nights. If you aren't used to it you might wanna bathe in Deep Woods OFF before going out on the water. I've had some out-of-state people on my boat at night and they said the mosquitoes felt like bee stings...
Strangely, I hate using bugspray.. Never seems like it works anyway.. do you give up personally, or still wear spray?
But trust me, when you get out on that water and start hoisting 50+lb alligator snappers and 400lb gators into the boat, you'll forget all about the bugs.
That's a strategy I'd be happy to evaluate!

Anything rated for geese or turkey should work.

 No more taunting!
I totally forgot about hogs these past few days! First warmblooded critter I'd shoot upon moving! I'll miss the bigger deer up here, but fresh pork? Yes please.
It will probably be just what I need to finally get around to buying a G20

I always have cans of it in my boat, but to be honest I only really use it if I'm sitting still shining or something...other than that I'm usually moving too much for them to even land on me.

Man, if you've never been out in the swamp hunting wild boar...you need to. I can tell you this, I'm more comfortable dealing with gators than being out in the open with hogs. I still have a pair of jeans with about a 6" cut straight through the calf when a hog broke loose from my dogs and came after me. Those cutters are sharp, and they won't hesitate to use them.

It's open season all year. It's by far the most intense hunting especially when you're on foot. When the calf of my jeans got cut, I was about 15yds from my 3-wheeler...I barely made it over there and hopped up on top of the seat before my dogs caught him again and dragged him down to the ground and I shot him.
This is what I was standing on when I shot him:

You poor soul...that very 200S has gone more places and outlasted all my friends 4-wheelers. It's still bone-stock...not a thing done to it since 1984.

i've had a very very similiar experience myself, except minus the gator part. do you remember the guy in another thread awhile back talking about people that go hunting with a sidearm along with their rifle? like i told him then, apparently he's never hunted wild hogs. lol
when you wind up at kissin distance to a hog a rifle makes a decent club to beat it down with until you can pull your pistol.

Right, so why describe every city in the country?

Yeah pretty much...I bring a Marlin 1895 .45-70 lever-action and either a Ruger Super Redhawk .44mag or Glock 10mm. The one that almost got me I pulled the G20 on, since he was literally like 3ft away from me when the dogs caught him. Standing on top of the Honda I had a good vantage point and caught him right in the top of the head...he dropped like a wet rag.

I'm from NY originally and have been working here for about 6 months, the heat is something that is hard to deal with when you factor in the humidity. I would visit first, I work with some guys from Baton Rouge and Slidell and they all agree about New Orleans.

If you can hang with us here in LA, you're a special breed. I haven't met a Yankee yet that hasn't pissed and moaned the entire time about the heat, bugs, blah blah blah.
They usually end up quitting after being called candy-asses and sissy-boys day after day.

Do you work out in the heat? I'll admit, I haven't done much of any hard work while in the south, but I did some hiking, and of course, lots of lizard chasing!
I've been down south a few times, but never over a week at a time.. so maybe it wasn't enough to get on my nerves, but I love the heat. Well I don't but everything I love does, so I gotta deal.

Hey, you got the right attitude...and that's 98% of it. You really don't deal with it any differently than anywhere else during the summer...stay hydrated and wear something on your head to reduce exposure to the sun.
