The sticks are better in the long run, especially if you like to do what you want in your home or your yard. If you don't mind living the apartment life, Lafayette has some awesome places decked out with all kinds of amenities...but you'll pay for it. And yeah...when the zombies come, I have 2 different places in the state...both in the woods.

The 3 most venomous are the Coral, Canebrake, and Cottonmouth. The rest like the Copperheads aren't really life-threatening but will probably mess your day up.
The real fun is the gators and the alligator snappers.
Remember this pic I put up a while back in another thread?

Tantrix,
I do remember that photo! Always had a soft spot for the snappers, but never coughed up the coin( plus space for keeping) to own an alligator[snapper].
I'm used to the apartment life, thinkin that might be the best to find housing near employment, then I start buying shipping containers and a plot in the woods for the manhouse. I've got too many tools, guns, and gear to spend much more time in living in apartments!

Please. Stop.
More food pics please! I had lunch once in this little town south of Lafayette. It was a cafeteria style place and had the best gumbo I've ever tasted. Hope I can find it if I'm ever down there again.

Down here, if you look carefully you can find those little buddies fresh out of the nest about the size of a silver dollar. Years ago, I grew one from a hatchling all the way to about 4" before releasing him into the wild. I had him in a 75gal tank.
As far as the apartment thing, I did it from my teens up until about 21 years old then bought my own place. I haven't rented in over 10 years and couldn't be happier. I can play music as loud as I want (I'm a drummer, so it does get loud out here sometimes) and I can shoot my guns in my own yard...no need to go to a range and pay.
Besides, I'm used to roughing it on my own away from people/neighbors. I grew up in the swamps down here, so outdoors away from civilization is where I'm most comfortable.

Oh, no doubt...Jerry made that song what it is...but you gotta give Les credit, he did an awesome cover. I don't think anyone else could have pulled it off that well.

You make it sound like the life.
Sweet. I tried to always have a common snapper around, they are great garbage disposals. Anytime I'd have a snake refuse a meal, the turtle took care of leftovers. I also had one from a hatchling size, kept him until he hit around 5".

I think grim is lying. He ain't got no 30 foot fiberglass shark! He wants you to move to Mississippians he thinks a 30 foot fiberglass shark will close the deal.

If you enjoy the outdoors, it pretty much IS the life. You ever been out on the water at 1am on the Atchafalaya Basin, shined and counted 20 pairs of red eyes watching every move you make?
(Hint: red eyes are those large scaly carnivores that swim)
