Good Evening Glock Talk,

How would I go about installing Meprolight Night Sights on a Glock 23? Is it a simple process?

I'd rather not hire a gunsmith.

You can put the rear sight on with a punch and hammer, but I don't recommend it, since you can booger up the sights. The front sight can be put on with the Glock front sight installation tool and a dab of blue loctite. The tool I use for the rear is the Maryland Gun Works rear sight installation tool for Glocks. If you were in the Middle Georgia area, I would be glad to do it for you. Where do you live?

I've always removed the slide from the lower, and taken the barrel and recoil spring out. Then, turn the slide upside down and put it in a vise with soft jaws or pieces of wood on either side of the slide. Snug up the vise and tap out the front sight with a small punch or screw driver.

I've used blue Locktite on the screw that holds the sight in place. (Meprolight specifies green Locktite on the sight post. Green Locktite will take up the space between the slot in the slide and the post; blue Locktite on the threads works for me.)

I've modified a nut driver to fit up next to the slide in order to tighten the screw. A duck billed (flat nosed) pliers will work, too if you're careful.

Remove the slide from the vise and turn it over positioning it so the jaws are on either side of the rear sight. Keep the slide as low in the jaws as possible yet high enough to tap the sight out to the side.

Using a pencil mark where the slot on the sight is by drawing lines on the top of the slide showing where the slot is.

I've used a brass punch,tapped the old plastic sight out and tapped the new sight in. Line up the slot on the new sight with the lines on the slide.

That works for me.

P.S. Make sure the dots on the new sights are facing the rear of the slide.
