what 9mm brand ammo 2 use in 17 gen 4?

i was at the range yesterday, shooting away with my Remington UMC 115gr Valu packs of 250 rounds for $60 (great price in canada.)
the guy shooting next to me had a beretta 82 no rail and let me fire it off, he handed me a mag with 3 rounds in it. i shot a little low, but every shot on the center line 1 on top of the other, 3d shot was almost a bulls eye really great for left to right aim and with a little practice i could be much better with it.(im buying one...lol)
then i loaded it up with myy Rem UMC 115 gr and i was shooting it how i shoot my glock...on the paper, close to where i want but no consistency.
so im thinking on top of me being a new shooter...maybe my gunb doesnt like my UMC because his beretta sure liked his 147gr much better.

what have you had good results with? what is on the cheaper end but still ok.

i've been happy with fed 147 fmj flat nose, normally $12-14/box of 50 bought online or at gun shows in Virginia. similarly happy with fed 115 fmj. also been happy with the various blazer and blazer brass offerings.

never really been a fan of UMC.

Don't use reloads - it will void your Glock warrantee.

If he was shooting 147gr, he could very likely be a reloader, and those may very likely be more consistent and more accurate than UMC.

I prefer heavy for caliber standard pressure SD ammo. I would carry either the 147g HST or 147g Gold Dot.

Sorry, I think it was 137 grain. They were factory loaded ammo...I forget the brand,but he said it was $300 with tax for 500 rounds. My remington umc is $135 for 500.
I know the store he got it at, and the brand is on the tip of my tongue...ide know it if I see it.

I want to try some +P rounds, and get some defencive rounds to bang off a few.
I've got 2 boxes of zombie max 115 gr hollow points I've got to try too. But at $20/20 rounds I'm not too thrilled to use it for practice lol

Probably the shots have nothing to do with ammo differences at all.

Unless you were at 25 yards and already shooting 5" groups, or at 10 yards shooting 2" groups. And and then you changed ammo and those groups suddenly got a lot smaller.

Unless that happened, it wasn't the ammo

Most likely just shooter variance thus far.

Any kind. That pistol should run any kind of 9mm ammo you put in it short of the over or undercharged kind.

My range is set up for 15/20/25/30/35 and I think 40.
@ 15 I've done a couple 1" groups of 3 shots, but its rare. I would say 3" average with a few really crappy ones and a few with 2 in a row touching.
Not claiming to be a great shot..but I'm not horrible.

I'm going to pick up a few different types of ammo and try it.
I've fired some .45's handloads in my p220 and different factory loads and you really notice a diference when you mix the mag up with half factory loads and half handloads.

The glock Is firing everything I put in it..I'm just wondering if there is some ammo it likes better than others.

Figured it out...he was using American Eagle 147 grain 9mm FMJ.

Why the slow, heavy 147gr? They are not moving fast enough to expand . . . . .

Regarding ammo, Glock's warranty says only "The provisions of this warranty shall not apply to any firearm that has been subject to... ...use of ammo other than SAAMI or NATO specs".

It's also a one year warranty. How many here have returned their old, well-used Glock for completely covered service - no questions asked?

Generally true for SD, but for the OP's trial, FMJ aren't expanding anyway.

I have to sit at a bench and steady the gun with sandbags to notice differences in ammo.

You might be better than me, but I just wanted to give the opinion that for the average handgun shooter, especially after only a few shots, ammo differences don't likely explain variations in group size.

However, point of aim changes can more easily be detected.

Certainly, good bullseye shooters can tell differences in group size, but they are shooting real small groups to begin with. They would still usually go to the bench to confirm their suspicions

good call, ill grab some different loads and shoot off a bench.

as i said, i dont think im a great shot, but i shoot with guys who can easily put 5 rounds in a row touching at 15 yards.
i can actually shoot my friends cz shadow much better than i can shoot my sig p226 and glock 17, i shot the cz @ 100 yards and hit our gong (pie plate) 2/10...i thought that was alright for a first time trying at 100. sitting at a bench no pistol rest.
ive probably done 6000 rounds of just 9mm in the last 6 months, and probably 3000 .45acp (that stuff costs too much lol)
i havent been shooting long, but i think ive shot a lot.
practice as much as i can, im going into a zombie shoot on the 28th just for fun (charity event)

quick google search says:
american eagle 147 fmj - 953 fps at 50 yards
remington umc 115g fmj - Velocity at 50 yards: 1048 fps

are you saying that those american eagle rounds are fast or slow?
should i be looking at something with a higher fps?
im open to suggestions.

and the american eagle is only about $2/50box more here over the umc...so its not significant.

I use Tula and Federal red box almost exclusively in my Gen 3 & 4 Glocks with excellent accuracy.

Here's my G4 17 with Speer Lawman 124gr at 25 yards. American Eagle 124gr works well too. Both of those work well in all my 9mm, so those are what I buy by the case

Also carry GoldDot 124gr.

I'm a firm believer in practicing with something akin to what you use for defense for report, recoil & POA IF you are going to employ the handgun as such. If it's a range gun then it doesn't matter. If the latter it's more economical to buy in bulk off the Internet or reload.

My Gen 4 G17 has shoot over 1000 rounds of everything. I use Speer Gold Dot 147gr or 124 +p.

I would suggest looking around and trying multiple brands of ammo. Shoot some off a bench. See what you and your gun like.

I haven't shot any Rem UMC in a while, but I bet the issue of consistent shooting is more you than the gun.

As far as weight...I shoot a heavier load (147gr) better. BUT I know it is just me, not the gun as others have shot my gun with light loads.
