My first AK.

The stock locks up tight. There is a good bit of mag wobble. The dust cover is tight and rattle free. The bolt moves well and there's no resistance when returning to battery. It has a Sight Mark Reflex sight and SureFire light. What do you guys think about her?

Updated Photo: I took off the plastic guards and the Surefire Light. The weight difference is considerable. I have since taken the AFG off and put the VFG back on. It seems to be a bit more controlable. I've also added a Houge Grip.

WASR 10/63 underfolder?
Don't see the underfolder WASRs around much anymore.
As long as the FSB and GB are reasonably straight then she'll serve you well.

What handguard is on it?

A UTG handguard.

Front sight block and gas block.
WASRs are known to occasionally have canted front sight blocks and/or gas blacks.
A canted FSB will effect your ability to zero the irons if it is bad enough.
A canted GB can cause cycling issues if your gas piston can't seat properly, but it sounds like your cycles fine.

Not all have these issues, just something to be aware of.

Yeah, I think it's canted a litte cause the iron sight is moved all the way to one side by the previous owner. Well, the pistol head apears to not be beat up. Would it show uneven or excessive wear if the GB was canted?

If the gas block was canted enough to impede operation then it would leave evidence in the gas tube and/or gas block of the gas piston hitting it. If the action cycles smoothly and you don't see any abnormal wear in gas block then you should be good to go.

Get a quality optic at some point, and get over to Tactical Response in Camden. They will show you how to run it the right way.

What do recommend for a best value quality optic? Thanks for the link. I like the micro red dots.

IMO the best 2 budget optics are the Bushnell TRS-25 and the Primary Arms Micro Dot.
I have no personal experience with the PA red dot, I am just going off the large amount of positive feedback I have seen with zero negative feedback.
The Bushnell TRS-25 I do have first hand experience with because I have one on my SGL21. For $80 I think you would be extremely hard pressed to find a more durable red dot, they also have good clear glass, and the red dot is pretty crisp.
I think you will find these 2 red dots to be the most recommended budget optics.

If you have the cash to blow then I would recommend an Aimpoint Micro, a product as equally durable as the Kalashnikov.

Thanks again for some good intel. I will not pay more for a sight than the I paided for the weapon. I like the looks of the TRS-25. i'll try that. The SightMark reflex sight I have on it now cost more than $80 though. I think they retail around $120 or so. What do you think I should do?

I have no knowledge of the SightMark Reflex.
I think if you already have one and you find it to work well then just stick with it. No point in spending money if you don't need to, would be better to spend it on ammo imo.

I think I stay with what I have and maybe grab a TRS when i can as a back up. Just throw it in the bag. Thanks HWI.

So loose the grip then...lol. How can I keep the light and sight with the factory composite forend? The only thing that got changed was the forend so the accessories could be munted on.

That's just me. Keep it how ever you want. No need for the VFG, the light or all those silly rail covers IMO. Not sure if its a quick mount for the flashlight but no need to keep it on all the time. Again IMO.

Very nice looking weapon. I haven't touched mine since I traded for it so I'm open to suggestions. I am for sure taking off the plastic gaurds but I'm going to rock the VFG though. I do think the light can rest in the rifle bag till needed though. Thanks for your input Sgt.

I will but you did get me thinking. The current sight weights 11 ounces and I can go to a micro red dot down to 4 ounces. I lose the light and plastic rails and I am dropping some weight up there. I like it! Thanks

As far as weight savings go, I agree with cutting weight on the front of the rifle. It does make the rifle easier to handle.
I learned this through experimenting with different set ups, various handguards, vfg, AFG, etc.
I eventually ended up with an Ultimak gas tube with a micro red dot on it and a K-Var lower handguard on both my AKs and this is what I plan to stay with for the foreseeable future. I find it to be ergonomically comfortable, light weight, and heat resistant. Basically, it's a high speed low drag set up to help combat my low speed and high drag. lol

Everyone is different, so YMMV.

Upon further review my Reflex sight weights 7.6 ounces not 11. So, if it hits the mark I'll stay with it since the weight difference is less than double instead of more than double. I think you're right about the primary arms micro, they are sold out of those bad boys everywhere it seems. I still like the look of the micro that's not to say that I will like shooting it though. I think I'm going to spend my hard earned cash on mags and ammo though.

Ok. I took off the guards and the light. Wow, it's not only weights less it looks killer too. Plus, the folding stock locks up tight with the guards off. Thanks for the suggestions.
