62 grain will take hogs all day long. I've actually taken quite a few hogs with standard 55 grain rounds.

I've had luck with hogs using the 62grn Soft Point Russian ammo. Deforms nicely. The MFS, Brown, and Silver Bear 62grn Soft Point ammo all uses the same projectile as far as I can tell. And it's cheap enough to stack it deep.

As many pros and cons as I've heard; I can't bring myself to shoot an Russian ammo through my Made in USA AR. :P

Eh it's all my rifle ever really shoots. Heck the 62 grn SP is all I pretty much buy and stash away anymore. I usually put the nickel plated stuff at the front and shoot that first though guess it's less corrosion resistant than the laquer coated stuff.

It's a hog....Head shots are the best, but if you make a bad shot, remember it's a hog not a King Ranch buck.

I like anything with a soft tip.

He's using a Sauer 202 Bolt action in 7mm Rem Mag.

I've seen him in several other videos and the guy can shoot running game for sure...

Is that the younger guy in the video? I've seen a video of him going 10 for 10 on running hogs. The dude can straight up shoot.

yes--he's the younger guy.

I've been on drive hunts in Germany. Best I ever did was three pigs in a day. Its not as hard as it looks if you practice. And they practice all the time.

This thread reminds me of the live animal testing that LeMas did all those years ago. The footage is still on youtube for those who can stomach it. It's gruesome, but it shows how effective light weight, hyper velocity 5.56 rounds can be, even on pigs.

I used 64 gr. winchester soft points till I ran out. Never lost one (10-12 deer) Now I'm using 75 gn. TAP. I shot a large doe with it last year and she was DRT. I need a few more before I trust it. For hogs I use whatever I have with me. 17 hmr in the ear will work in a pinch. These are vermine and not game. Year round open season to eliminate this distructive animals.

Hunted deer with my AR last year and I used Winchester 64gr power points. They performed fine for me. The only thing I'm going to do different this year is get a lower capacity magazine for easier maneuverability in the deer stand.

Last year I started considering using one of my AR's for deer hunting - my 24" bolt action .30-06 is a 1/3 MOA gun, and I have complete confidence I can hit anything I aim at, but it is a bear to drag around the thick pine forests that I hunt in. Not to mention the tritium in the ACOG on my AR would be worth its weight in gold during those 30 minutes before sunrise and after sunset. Earlier this evening, after a long day of walking 9+ miles with a muzzle loader (26" barrel), I decided the AR is coming out next weekend for the opening of rifle season purely based on ergonomics, weigh, and sling function. I ordered the 62 grain Federal Fusion (based on my research)...hopefully I can post back soon with a report of how this ammo worked on a whitetail.

I didn't hunt in Deutschland, but I did enjoy the local Wildschwein and Hirsch. Made friends with a Metzger who also owned a Gastaus. He was a big hunter and collector.

He used to serve a lot of the game he took in his Gasthaus. Typically after dessert he would show me his latest gun purchases. I remember one of his pride and joys was an engraved drilling (forget the calibers) that had cost him around DM 17k circa 1980.
