We got both in one day. TASER in the morning, OC in the afternoon. They both sucked a big fat one. I'd love to never have to do either again. I think the TASER hurt more, but it was over in 5 seconds and I was back to normal (heart not racing) within 5 minutes. The OC sucked and I was out of commission for over an hour.
I understand the exposure just to be able to articulate on the stand why I did or did not do something.

Pepper. Not real bad, if you don't mind lasting after affects, and getting as much as the person who you're spraying.
With that being said, we don't get TASER training, and no longer are authorised stun belts because of our facility custody level.
Now, eat some hot stuff.

FWIW, twice now I've been shocked while attempting to cuff an offender while my partner was doing a drive stun with the Taser. I'm glad I was tased, so it doesn't surprise me as much (although I still yell "*******!!!" when it happens). The OC makes sense, because now you know how to fight through it when you get yourself in the eyes while trying to spray an offender in the wind.
Oh, and about the baton... I gave myself a half-swing in the thigh with both my wood stick and my ASP. Both hurt like hell and bruise. So I feel like I can testify that it hurts like a biotch.

It was a pair of metal barber sheers for me. Sent damn near across the room. I subsequently **** myself when my mom rushed into the room.
Something about electricity fascinates me.

Some invocation to do with electrical storms. I used to hear it in Oki when a storm front rolled it.

Along the lines of "knock on wood," right?

I shocked myself while I was drive stunning a guy inside of my cruiser... had my arm on the cage and got some of the current through it.
(the guy was combative drunk that had already been pepper sprayed as well... )

There is something natural about OC pain. It is... just pain.
Taser? That feels like someone attached a blowtorch to a jackhammer and ran it up and down your spine for a few seconds. Evil. Worst 5 seconds of my life.

Great. You guys are freaking me out. We're getting Tasers soon (not sure which...probably the kind that connect to the car's battery with jumper cables) but I'm 50/50 on taking the ride. I like Morris's approach: it's best to actually KNOW the effects when testifying. But, OTOH, I likely won't be the only one in training that pees his pants so I'll just man up and do it.

Really? I was a semi-professional musician in a former life and used to test 9 volts this way all the time....who knew I was playing such a dangerous game!

So can freezing your tongue to a light pole, but it's time to stop listening to Consumer Reports and just harden up.

Man up and take it. Over 100,000 VOLUNTEERS have done so, plus all of the "less than voluntary" exposures.

Make sure you have someone record the event (if you can) so you can have a lifetime of laughs at your own expense. My mother, to this day, refuses to watch my taser video. She says something about not being able to listen to her son scream. My wife, however, finds it hysterical.

I have no problem listening to you scream. Post it here

I'd have no problem doing just that...except it would violate department policy to publicly display any form of "training" on the internet.
Trust me, this battle has been fought and lost.

Not everyone reacts the same to OC. I'm overly sensitive and refuse to even carry it on duty. It literally blinds me for close to 30 minutes.
