Yugo "Grenade Launcher Site" modification

I have a Yugo underfolder with the Grenade Launching site on top.

My AK has an Ultimak Rail. I want to use the space on the rail covered by the grenade site in the down postion. Part of it at least. Since I've owned it for a few years and haven't launched any Yugo grenades I don't think I'll miss it.

Has anyone modified that site but shortening it. I know it can't be removed completely because of the gas switch but can it be cut down w/o affecting function? Looks like it wouldn't matter but I wanted to see if anyone has actually done it already. The metal is very thin where I propose to cut and grind it down.

Thoughts?

I've never done it but it won't hurt anything function wise. Just appearance but it's your gun; do as you please

That's what I thought. My AK already looks like it was dug up out of a potato field

so no worries there.

I have the Yugo U/F w/Ultimak Rail also. I decided to leave the grenade sight on it.

I left the sight on mine as well.
