G26 vs. Shield

I regularly extol the virtues of the Glock 26 and consider it among Glock's best offerings, especially considering the size and ease of use. I like it enough to have more than one. That said, while I have far less experience with the Shield, it is becoming a gun that just always feels right, always seems to point properly to me. Despite far less than a year and less than fifteen hundred rounds through it, it is getting like the Detonics, or P220 or the Model 66 I started with in the late '70s. Reliable, predictable, familiar; sort of as an old friend.

I just handled a shield for the first time last week.

It's amazing how thin it is.

Have yet to see or touch a Shield in person. HUGE fan of the G26. I imagine I'll buy the first Shield I run across just for the hell of it.

You hear nothing but good things from the folks that own them. My only problem is that the capacity of the G26 is about as low as I want to go. For my taste, some of these small single stacks are giving up too much of the extra capacity that is one of the major reasons for choosing a pistol over a revolver. That said, setting 10 rounds as a minimum rather than 8 is pretty arbitrary, and I can certainly understand others having a different opinion or a different threshold. It is hard to think of a pistol in its category that has been more warmly received than the Shield.

I've been wanting a 26 for many years but everytime I go to buy one something happens and I don't. Since the XD-S and the Shield appeared in the mix,the next gun I buy will probably be one of those three. tom.

The 26 holds about 50% more ammo, and doesn't have a safety. It's what, like 1/8th" wider? Take photos side by side. They conceal the same.

The slides are close, but the grip on the S&W is much thinner. The G26 is a brick by comparison.

I wanted a slim carry gun, so I went with the PPS. It's light years more comfortable than the G26/27.

It also has better features than the Glocks.

One of the more difficult firearm decision that I've made is having to walk away from buying a Glock due to the way they hold in my hand... I love the simplicity, durability, accuracy, ease of everything, price, etc. which is almost all that can be asked... The only problem is that they just really do feel that bad in my hand, and I'm forced to give up some capacity to get the comfort and concealability back...

I'll have a Shield in my posession next week, and I'm not real crazy about having 7-8 rounds, but I'll try to make the best of it and maybe pack an extra mag on the belt.. Having something that feels right, and very concealable means that I'll carry it often and that's better than one that stays in the safe I reckon...

Glock is still a legend in my mind, just wish we coulda come to terms a little better..

I have been concealing a G26 in the Las Vegas summer for years with just a T-shirt, shorts and flip flops just fine. Never once had someone ask if I was carrying or have someone tell me Im printing. It conceals extremely well with my IWB kydex holster. Oh yeah and thats with a pinky grip extension!!!

I cant justify losing capacity for a thinner grip. I guess if I had tiny hands and the grip of the G26 was too big for me I could be I guess Im lucky?

I would probably buy a Shield for ankle carry or maybe pocket carry since my G26 does not fit me in those areas.

I carry a 1911 most of the time, so the Shield's capacity doesn't bother me.

I'd rather get a Glock 36. I can take all the magazines from the Glock 21 to the Glock 30, holds one extra round the XD-S, and is lighter.

The G36 is quite a bit bigger than the XDs.

Same here, at the gun show but it was a .40 had it been a 9mm I would have walked out the door with a new purchase.

Having fired both and in terms of concealment and ergonomics, I'd take a Shield over G26 any day. The difference in round count is too trivial to even be concerned with.

A big reason I went with the 26 are the mags. I have a 19 too and the 26 can use any mag I have, and if I carry both one extra mag serves both. The XDs and Shield are about the same size but lighter which is nice

I also much prefer 9mm.

I agree. I don't see the big deal with losing a couple of rounds for a much more comfortable gun.

I'm also on the hunt for a Shield to use as my primary carry gun.
